Re: Cold weather oil for 1984 GL1200 Interstate

Just make sure it is rated for your wet clutch. The manual will give you all the jargon.

I love living here! I don't have to worry about all those 'other' oils. 30 is justttttt fine :)

Re: Hi Viz . . . yay or nay?

It ain't a bad idea at all. I have a suit with several bright white/reflective stripes. If I were buying a new suit, I'd probably add more bright color to be easier to see. I run headlights ALL THE TIME. Headlights will save your bacon .. I mostly am ATGATT, but I'll run lighter in some places. The ...

Re: Distance riding

Hey kiddo. Good to meet you. I've run a LOT of miles on small bikes over my very long journey. Had a 200CC two cycle back in the 1970's up in Montana. I'd been to Sturgis many times before I turned 16 (license? whatever!). I've also owned a 250 twin. I put many miles on that bike too. The deal is, i...

I took that picture shortly after I bought it in 2008. It now hows another 50,000 miles and 6 years of age. I wish it still looked so nice, but . . . :)

Re: How many crashes in how many years?

I had many crashes on dirt bikes and street bikes I was riding as if they were dirt bikes--poor kids ride what they can find! I crashed a few times jumping rivers/streams trying to show off. All before I turned into a teenager! All this was in the big wide open spaces of Montana. After serving in th...

Re: Do you ride in the rain? At night?

Yes and yes. I don't really mind the rain--drizzle on the other hand is a bugger! I love riding at night when the weather is good. No traffic and rarely see wild life on the road. I am getting older now, the peeps aren't as good, so I slow it back. Hard rain is dangerous and YES, your bike can and w...

Re: The Joys of Riding an Older Bike

I enjoyed reading your post. I appreciate the loyalty to a ride. Have many of the same feelings, but I don't call the bike him or her--just bike :) I rode this old bike from here to the southern US states for many visits with ham friends and biker friends. In all, it was just under a 10,000 mile rid...

bugger, grhs.

I just watched my buddy wreck this evening. Held his head as rescue crew cut off his gear. I can not even imagine leaving a scene, but then, I am human, some of those amongst us I believe, are not. :(

Re: USA Road Trip Help

In Chicago, you will use the "L" to get around. It is a train that zips and zaps rapidly and beats driving by MILES. Great town. You will want to visit the Sears Tower, worlds 'former' tallest building and it is a MUST SEE. I visited the Museum of Industry--great stuff. Headed to the lake, Navy pier...

Oh Lordy that was a knee slapper!

Was that a UPS truck?!

Oh, should have put some sort of warning on that link! "warning, make sure bladder is empty before proceeding!"

Thanks for the link. :)

I don't worry about water touching my skin when I'm in hot county. I use mesh jacket and dump some water in front and back between stops and found it works very well. I also dump water down my throat! Hydration is EVERYTHING in hot country. The only complaint I have is trying to keep my palms cool--...

Re: Tip Top Tips

Learn the maximum quantity of fuel your tank will hold. Then learn the MINIMUM distance you can drive per gallon/liter of fuel. Multiply the amount of fuel by the minimum distance and determine that the result is your maximum range your bike can go EVER! :) Otherwise, bring more petrol :) Regards,

Re: Just One Thing...

I swear, I have NOT read any replies yet. . . I'd wish that my bike was a parallel twin or v4--silky smooth. Even a perfect Honda v-twin isn't smooth enough after 5k miles or so of a trip. Love my old bike but would love it to be vibration free from idle to full road speed. Now, time to read the rep...

Re: any side effect to using trickle charger long term?

I'd argue with replacing a battery that often just on principal. I keep a Battery Tender on my MC and have not replaced it in almost 4 years now. I've talked to others with older batteries yet. No argument with your logic what so ever--stretch the life as long as you can. Here is my point--I don't ...

yes, there is a side effect: your battery will be fully charged and your bike will start! :)

Remember to replace the battery every few years. They don't have a long life span.

Re: B.C. outlaws motorcycle 'skid lids' (about bloody time)

I guess I'm still okay with helmet laws. I ride around my neighbourhood without a helmet, have been spotted by LEO, but never ticketed, but on the road, I want my helmet on for protection (crash, bugs, rocks). I used a 3/4 and loaned it to my mom many years ago -- she wrecked my old bike and her fac...

Wow mogster: That story "hits home" for me too. A few months ago, riding from a buddies house after sunset, I seen something out of the far edge of my vision, could have sworn it was a club! I was hit in the shoulder/chest. I thought some B#strd was trying to blind-side me on the corner so I hit the...

I have no friends and I just needed someone to talk to, to vent my anger, I was seeking someone that experienced th...
