Re: New rider -- oh DEER!

Bottom Line...recognize the situation for that it was...an incident where the new rider (you) wasn't sure what to do...just learn from it. (we all do, believe me!)

Get back on your bike, maintain acute awareness, and ride without fear. You will be fine.

Re: Our greatest fear as bikers...

1. What are our greatest fears, frustrations and anxieties as motorcycle riders? FEAR: No real fear (no flaming please - I'm just saying you can't ride in fear), but I wouldn't want to come out of an accident as an invalid. FRUSTRATION: People doing stupid dodo on the road (same as if I were in a ca...

Re: 2012 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Models Preview

Being a Heritage Softail owner, I checked out the Softail models.

The Blacklines are cool as is the Fatboy low. Heritage is solid as usual.

The one thing I wish HD would do is offer several different paint styles for their bikes.

Re: Rider Down, Daughter Witnessed it..

@flw...well said my friend...

My 23 year old son (then 19) had to bury one of his best friends who committed suicide a few years back. He seems to be handling it as well as we could expect, but it was one of the toughest things he (or mom and dad) has had to endure.

Re: Rider Down, Daughter Witnessed it..

Sorry that your daughter and others had to witness the death of someone. It changes their lives while the person who caused the situation never took the time to think about the effects of his actions - on innocent bystanders OR his family. I don't mean to sound heartless but I don't feel sorry for t...

Ok, I agree with the wikid sound thing as long as you consider my V&H bigshots help with that...that's as close as I got with the options you laid out. I never really thought too much about why I love my Harley ('10 Heritage Softail) until you posed the question (in other words, I just do). As a kid...

I voted COOL because I appreciate the retro styling but really would've rather voted "it's ok". Nothing about it stood out and said "ride me!". Sorry Mike, I'm with Madjak30 on this one.

Should have mentioned it earlier. My Pitbull lift has a locking mechanism. No issues lifting and leaving it up to date.

Re: Songs that stir you emotionally.

Ok, I will NEVER admit to bawling like a girl and this isn't really a song like you're talking about but I have to mention it...the tune they play in the movie "Brian's Song" when Gale Sayers tells his teammates that Brian Piccolo has cancer...those who have seen it will know what I'm talking about....

Re: Can a bike lift be used to store a bike instead of stand

Sure, but it needs to be a solid lift (one you can walk away from without fear of someone knocking it over). I have a Pitbull manual lift I use to raise my HD Heritage Softail.

Re: Contact Lenses

I wear prescription sunglasses during the daylight and glasses with OTG goggles when I'll be riding in darkness. If you decide to go the prescription lens route I'd recommend a couple of things: 1) make sure you get the kind that handles impact. I recently got whacked by a bird (helmet & glasses sim...

Re: If storing a bike in a garage for the winter?

Good comments. I'll be out of the country over the winter (live near Baltimore) so I have to do the same thing. - Lift the bike - change the oil - full gas tank with additive - trickle charger - don't worry about starting the bike - I've asked my wife to spend some quality one-on-one time with my bi...

Re: fingers go numb

Looks like a lot of others already offered up the "too tight" grip problem. Agree with them completely although also slightly changing the position of your hand on the grips might help. My wife claims I'm numb from the neck up so maybe that's why I don't have any problems with numbness in my fingers...

@jstark47...thanks for the post on the Hurt report. It backs up what we've been talking about. The dude I mentioned in my last post - I misspoke about one thing - he was actually wearing a tank top when he slid out. Ouch! As Ron White (Blue Collar Comedy Tour) says..."You can't fix stupid". 'Nuf said.

Re: Disturbing and alarming statistics

Yep. Agree with Thumper on the rider skills... I ran up on a single motorcycle accident last fall. Dude was trying to navigate his old Honda Goldwing through a sweeping left turn, was going too fast, bike slid out of the curve and into some trees. He was torn up a bit but otherwise ok but his bike w...

All in running condition? Excellent! With several bikes, does he have some sort of system for keeping them in good running condition (weekly/rotational rides, specific ride lengths, etc)? Thanks for posting - very cool bikes!

Re: Disturbing and alarming statistics

Unfortunate, disturbing, and unexpected for theoretically experienced riders... I've often wondered if any government agency (or anyone else) has ever done a detailed study of motorcycle accidents based on things like age of rider, type of bike, gender, time of day, geography, experience level, etc....

Hi Marc... Welcome to the forum AND especially to riding. I've got two boys - both older than you - I know how they wanted to do everything FAST at your age (driving cars, riding motorcycles, you name it). I know you're not on a big bike, but still, as a new rider, please take it slow and easy...get...

Not necessarily my kind of ride but I think it's ok looking. The front forks are pretty interesting. Aw, who am I kidding, I don't really care.

I - well, my wife - had a BMW car once (325i)...I hope they make better bikes than cars! (no offense intended towards anyone owning their cars)

Re: How to take a shower

@mogster...I used to have hair down my back but that was in the '70s. They took care of that when I joined the Army.

Luckily I haven't lost any of it. It's just not as long and for some reason has turned gray. Probably due to my family haha.

One of those brushes is sounding good :-)
