Re: should i buy or no

You might want to do some research to find out what sort of problems that model is known for and how easy (or difficult) it is to get parts, too. $1200 is WAY too much for a 30 year old bike that needs work. The seller might be trying to recoup losses from trying, and failing, to fix the bike. And t...

Re: LADIES-Do it yourself or get someone to do it for you?

I am not in the least bit mechanically inclined. I can do a few things on a car. Screwing something up won't necessarily get me killed. Screwing up the motorcycle could, so I leave that to the professionals. I don't know anyone that scared of a bike. Yikes. Sounds like the husband could use a weeken...

Re: Greetings from Alaska

Dad just wore a standard snow-machining suit. This was in the late '70's.

You can ride year 'round in Anchorage. If you have a kick-starter and put screws in the tires :)

Nice.

I may be picking one up in the near future for my husband. Look it out for a quick test ride today. I am the best wife ever :)

Re: Best tires for on-road stability?

Tire pressure is definitely key. Mine gets a touch wobbly when the front tire gets low, which is about once a week.

Yeah. That line paint is slippery even when dry.

Re: Passed my test!!!!!! Now what??

Practice, like everyone else said, to know thy machine. Get to know it as though it's an extension of yourself. If you have some open spaces to work with, I also suggest finding out how fast your bike can accelerate. That's just as important as knowing how fast you can stop. Developing that 6th sens...

For the pleasure of the open road, of course.

That's awesome they did a study. I find it's good for my mental health, but that wasn't something they were measuring.

Gorgeous pictures. Obviously staged. I don't see any bugs or dirt on that bike :)

Re: How long do you keep a bike?

First bike was laid to rest after a year. Was way cheaper to buy a spanking new one off the showroom floor than to keep fixing it. I've had the Shadow since 2004. I expect another 2-4 years out of it (I'm not sure how far past 100k I can expect a 750 to last). As long as it runs and stays reliable, ...

Re: 1982 CB650 Starter issue PLEASE HELP new to older bikes

I had a CB650C from that year. It was so riddled with electrical problems that wouldn't stay fixed that I gave up and bought a new bike.

Good luck.

Re: I've just about decided on a bike...but what about gear?

I have to get new tires very 10k miles (8 mos). With mount and balance, the bill is about $400.

As far as insurance goes, stay under 750cc for the bargain pricing.

Don't rule out the 750's just yet. Mine gets about 50mpg (it's too small for your tall frame, so look at other models and brands).

Mine is far from a performance bike. More like an easy chair with handlebars.

Re: The wave

I wave at anything on two wheels.

My best friend recently got a '60s Peugeot moped and asked me why all the bikers are waving at her. She hasn't quite wrapped her head around the idea that she's one of us, now. She's also 59 :)

Got some good resources about motorcycling in Asia? My best friend wants to ride from Cambodia to Nepal next year and I have no idea where to find useful info for her.

Re: new rubber

Or try something new. I decided to take a pair of bargain tires for a spin, with interesting results. Somehow, the cheap Shinko tire on the front is wearing longer than the Dunlop tires I'd been getting. On the other hand, the Shinko on the back wore out faster than the Dunlop. Drives my mechanic cr...

Re: Freeway riding: Right or Left lane?

I live in the fast lane. Not as much going on, and it's smoother. The shoulder is usually cleaner, too, in case I ever need to use it.
