Re: Allowing a passenger to ride w you

Re: Newbie trying to tie down gear

I agree with you....bungie cords will stretch and get weak. I'll work on using the ratchet straps that I use for trailering the bike. These are strong. Maybe just use the bungie straps to position the load before using the big ratchet straps to make it secure.

Newbie trying to tie down gear

I'm set to do some tent camps off my bike and I've made a couple of 2-3 night road trips...but I see how easy it is to not tie down your gear good. I've about decided to use only 48" bungie cords. When I was using some shorter bungie cords when the load shifts on the road I saw a chance for a b...

Re: Allowing a passenger to ride w you

Actually, I told her nothing. She's the one who got me into biking...I feel I owe her. But, I weigh 230 lbs and she weighs 140 lbs. The bike has plenty of torque so I don't feel I lose much in performance...still, that's a big load. I just wish I rode alone...I'm risking only my life...passengers ar...

Re: Allowing a passenger to ride w you

You're right, In didn't think to engine brake..I got pretty concerned that I might be going down so I was focused on keeping us upright. Sometimes I regret that I ever started carrying a passenger. Just as with this flat at 65 mph the bike was more difficult to control because of her 140 lbs. I told...

Re: Cruisers and gravel roads

I wasn't expecting the 'Road Work Ahead' to mean 12 miles of gravel road...but there I was with no option but to ride the gravel. I just slowed down but still ran at about 40 mph and the bike never scared me.

Re: Allowing a passenger to ride w you

I think the whole thing is a learning experience so I've allowed her to ride almost from the beginning. It annoys me when I feel she's twisting her head back to look for traffic behind us...but actually the bike stays stable. I had a scary experience w her on recently. I had a rear tire flat while g...

TWO FLATS IN A WEEK

One morning I found the bike with the rear tire flat but the last occurred at about 65 mph. I felt lucky to keep it upright. The 1st cost me a new tire, tube and labor foe $300. The 2nd was a new tube only...with labor $120. Have many of you had flats? ......I need a break.

Re: Why are Harleys cool?

I'm a new rider at 67...I should have bought one as soon as my kids were grown...better late than never. But, when I decided it was time for me to get a bike, there was no other bike considered but Harley's. I've grown up admiring Harleys. Only Harley's sound like Harleys. I wouldn't even consider a...

Re: Now that I have been riding for several months

I very new also and it's my opinion that it's extremely important to make your turns without drifting outside of your lane. To me that meant using the clutch and throttle control...slow down if necessary but do what's necessary to control your turn...it's not okay to swing wide.
