Re: I Ride With Jesus

Welcome from Waldorf MD! Faith Rider, what a wonderful name! I ride with the Lord as well, and like American Express, I never leave home without Him! You'll have to post pictures of your bike because folks love to see what you ride and love to give compliments!

My first was an 09 V-Star 650 Silverado. I started riding at 52 after retiring from the US Air Force.

Re: Nighthawk cb 250 as a first bike?

Welcome to the forum. Are you taking the MSF course? I'm not sure how they do it in California but in Maryland it's a requirement to get your license and our MVA offers the course through our county community colleges. I strongly recommend you take the course and it will benefit you greatly. As for ...

Re: First Bike, all-in-one commuter.

I purchased the bike new and had it up to the first 4k checkup, and had that service done before I traded it. The 650 maintenance is easy, and easier if you have a garage. I don't so that made finding a good service shop a top priority for me. I have a great shop in my area that does all my work. If...

Re: First Bike, all-in-one commuter.

Jacob, My first bike was an 09 VStar 650 Silverado. I rode it for 3 years before upgrading to a 2012 VStar 950 Tourer last year. It might help to know some of your physical characteristics, how tall/heavy. I'm 5'9" and 250, my 650 got me around quite well, but my 950 is perfect for my riding style. ...

Re: All In the Family

Well, had my first ride with my daughter this weekend. What a joy! I've ridden with my SIL also, and now it's time to get the three of us on the road! I'm blessed to be able to share my motorcycle riding with my kids. Once my son gets married next year he wants to join our "club" too.

All In the Family

Well, I now have 2 new riders in my family! My daughter and my son-in-law just took the MSF class and both passed! My SIL took a cue from me and purchased his-n-hers sportsbikes [they didn't want cruisers - not their style, I understand] before they completed the class. Now all they have to do is go...

Re: Lottery stimulated Moto Fantasies

I would take advanced rider courses, buy a home in a warm weather climate that I could ride year round, travel the east and west coastlines on my bike, attend a motorcycle repair school, and open a motorcycle gear shop anywhere the market could use one. My dream garage would include my VStar 950 Tou...

Progressive DC Motorcycle Show

I attended the Progressive DC Motorcycle show this past Saturday at the Washington Convention Center, and it was a very enjoyable event. The stunt show featured two riders on their Kawasaki's and they were doing things I wouldn't even imagine you could do. All the major bike manufacturers were there...

If you don't have a garage

A coworker who has his motorcycle license but hasn't got a bike yet [I talk about him just about every chance I get ] uses the excuse that he doesn't have a garage to keep it in. So I asked if he had a parking spot or a level area around his house, and then told him I don't have a garage e...

Re: The wave

I've been out riding the past two weekends, lots of biker brethren out and about, and I believe I've had about 80% of them wave. It's been a mix of about 60% cruiser and 30% sportsbike and the rest were trikes and Cam Spyders. Has anyone else seen a rise in the number of folks waving? I believe the ...

Re: New Seat or Seat Pad

I was thinking about taking the stock seat and seeing if I can have it adjusted someway and I do have an auto upholsterer I've used so I will call them and see if they can do motorcycle seats. If I can't find anyone who can reupholster motorcycle seats, I'd still consider the Airpad cushion and IF I...

Re: New Seat or Seat Pad

I've done some research and also talked to some folks about this and the Airhawk 2 seat pad looks like a viable option but for a lot of folks trying to get the air setting just right really takes some effort. I spoke to someone who has one and after 4 months he still hasn't found the "sweet spot" fo...

New Seat or Seat Pad

The stock seat on my VStar 950 Tourer isn't what I want to sit on for more than an hour. I've seen the reviews and posts for the Mustang seat [very favorable reviews], but I also want to know if anyone has done the seat cushions/pads? I've seen a few that are rated good on their reviews and cost les...

Re: Didn't want to jack the thread

B2C, You are spot on. I have a coworker who embodies what you said, middle aged, 1st time rider with some $$$ and he purchased a Cam Spyder. In Maryland you have to have a motorcycle endorsement on your license to operate a Spyder and take the MSF class. After my coworker took the class he knew he w...
