I drilled out mine and no other measures were needed. My gas mileage stayed the same, maybe one or two miles difference in a tank.. no backfiring. runs great and sounds .. nice.. not to loud.. I am still thinking about maybe a set of cobra pipes. only because I like the super loud.. there are videos...
