Re: New riding gear

I absolutely agree with you. I'm an OR nurse, and I try to tell people that road rash and subsequent skin grafts need only a few feet of skin to pavement contact, but they blink, nod, and start their engines... All I can do is wear my gear and pray for them not to go down.

Re: New riding gear

Wow. Glad that event was less "eventful" than it could have been.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: New riding gear

That's why I haven't tried the mesh yet! It looks whimpy! I'm the "newbie" in my riding group, and none of my peers wears anything more than a leather vest and short sleeves when it's hot here. Granted, in the Puget Sound, we normally don't go through heat waves like this. But I ride with a full fac...

Re: Road to the Sun

Oh my! Good to know! Maybe I'll consider my 4x4 just to see it this year. Sort of on my bucket list. Thanks for the info.

Road to the Sun

I'm thinking about taking off from the Puget Sound area the first part of September. I already have a week off work scheduled then. Anyone so this kind of trip (enjoyably) that time of year in 5 days? I've heard Glacier National Park gets snow early, but not sure how early.

Re: What did you do today...

Weather has been PERFECT, but since last Sunday I have to keep my leg elevated. Tore my calf muscle in a couple of spots. In a walking boot for at least 2weeks. My mind is younger than my body apparently. Running is truly for youngsters :baby:

Re: What did you do today...

Hey Doug! Looks like you have the same bike as my husband! I LOVE that color!

I hear ya on the dollars and cents. I don't think I'll ever be able to retire.
We've been talking about making a trip up your way. I still haven't bothered with my enhanced DL; I guess I'd better get busy!

Re: What did you do today...

Rode to church with hubby, then with three other friends up Chuckanut Drive... Twisty and scenic view of the sound. What a gorgeous day we had! Oh, and lost my footing in a gravel parking lot and dumped my bike over while trying to back it out and around. Hurt my pride, not the bike. Glad my pride's...

Re: Obligatory Pic thread (for bikes)

So... Anyone else have trouble (aka no success) uploading photos? Just getting an avatar up seemed more difficult than I could have imagined.

Re: Lucky Save From a Lowside

I saw this video a long time ago. Aside from having no gear for protection, I just kept thinking the mistake was all in that fearful foot.... If he'd kept it on the footboard, don't you think he would have gotten through it? Or do you think the hard scrape bumped his foot out there?

Re: What did you do today...

Cleaned up kitchen after breakfast. Told Jesus "thanks" for the sunshine on my day off. Ran my John Deere all day running sand and gravel to finish a "trail" of steps around my deck to the back yard. Pulled weeds and slautered blackberry bushes to clear a spot for a garden. Took 1200 mg ibuprofen......

Re: Protective Gear

Thanks for the input. Although I can honestly say the jeans are not "fashionable," I expected them to be stiff like the old Toughskins I had to wear as a kid, with more heft. My textile jacket is MUCH more substantial. There are thicker/ reinforced knees and hips, but still, I was a little suspiciou...

Protective Gear

Can anyone give thumbs or thumbs down for the Kevlar "infused" jeans? I just got some through mail order, but they sure seem.... thin. At least compared to chaps.

Interested to know if they are worth keeping or not.

Thanks,

Monica

Re: Puget Sound Suggestions

Wow! I don't know if I'd be up for that long of a ride. I think there's an iron-butt ride for people with such stamina! I wouldn't make a good soldier, either, though. Gotta know your limits, right? I'm still trying to compress bike photo for my avatar with no luck. Now what? Still getting sprinkled...

Re: Puget Sound Suggestions

Yeah I'll get a few pics up once I figure out how to make them the right size.

I'd rather be on the road than dabbling on my iPhone. If it wasn't for my job, I would be!
Hope SOMEBODY's enjoying this weather...

Re: Anyone rent a bike for vacation at another U.S. city?

We rented from Eagle Rider in Palm Springs in February. Great places to ride with the mountain roads toward San Diego and LA. That particular franchise wasn't exceptional, but acceptable. The staff was great, but the bikes weren't in top shape. No break downs, just idle probs and a few saddlebag loc...

Puget Sound Suggestions

Hi! I'm new to the forum and just upgraded to my first touring bike! I'm looking forward to more day trips since it's warming up around here. Curious what a good "first" distance ride would be. My heart tells me I could handle a 400 mile trip, but my mind is saying," Don't bite off more than you can...
