Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Hi Doc, yes I'm sorry not to be in touch. I'm now only posting on Facebook because it is the quickest place to upload photos and also seems to reach the most number of people. Apologies to anyone here interested, but because much of my time is spent on the road and because I'm finding wi-fi and inte...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Hi Doc Thanks for the video. Ulp! That was pretty scary. It belongs firmly in my 'Things I will never do' archive. I've ridden cornishes in India this high above the canyon floor, but nothing where the road was as narrow, technical or dangerous as this. No thanks. (Sorry couldn't open the video till...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Two days ago I was lucky enough to get asked to join an expedition to find 'Eagle lake', a small mountain tarn, way up in the Sandras mountains in Turkey. The lake can only be reached at the end of a long journey on forester's tracks. At this time of year the tracks are often washed away by the spri...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Hi Blues,

No, there is still a long journey to take before I get there. The apples come from Almaty (or Alma-aty) in Kazakhstan. Lots of good things here in Izmir, though. :-)

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Glad to hear that DW. I think the club is becoming more friendly and sociable all the time.

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

We have just had a colossal hailstorm here in Izmir. It lasted no more than ten minutes, but the huge chunks of ice are now lying inches deep in the streets. It's now back to being hot and sunny, but the air is fresher now. I'm not complaining. Hi DW. I saw a few cyclists in Istanbul but not many. B...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Some photos from Istanbul at night, mostly from the Beoglu (Pera) where I was staying. Beoglu is the old Venetian quarter, north of the Golden Horn on the European side of the city. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q67/sv-wolf/925_zps7bruwewd.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q67/sv-wolf/916_...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

If I were ever to win one of those TV quizzes where you get to select a prize, I think I would probably not choose a motorcycling weekend in Prishtine, at least, not if there were any chance of rain. When I crossed over into Kosovo from Albania this morning, the weather was cooler than yesterday, bu...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

(See pics in post below.) I’m blogging this Sunday evening from the home of Ato and a young woman who seems to be his daughter or niece – I’ll call her his daughter. Ato, I would guess, is in his early 70s, wiry, strong as an ox, and with an easy laugh. He was an engineer (though ‘was’ is probably a...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

I’m holed up in a cheap hotel in Zadar, Croatia listening to the drunken singing of a wedding party down in the restaurant. For the last half hour, the guests have been lurching their way through a string of pop favourites. Out in the car park they are making short work of a hog roast. How exotic is...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Cracked rib - ah well it was all a bit embarrassing really. I ended up after a long day's riding in Sondria in northern Italy. I was tired and couldn't find a campsite so I asked a woman in a shop if there was a B&B or a pensione (a cheap hotel) nearby. As it turned out there was one just round the ...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

LOL. I know your French is better than that blues! :-) Thanks for the wish. I'm finding it hard to get wi-fi connections and the time to blog, but here's a few thoughts about Slovenia. Half an hour ago, I was putting up my tent in a campsite on the outskirts of Bovec in Slovenia when a young couple ...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

First day on the road. Rode down to Dover this morning after final panic and caught the ferry across to France. Then rode the DR down the A26 to Epernay, just outside Reims, arriving just after dark. Here I experienced my first act of kindness towards strangers. Having spent half an hour wandering r...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Just as I felt, blues. I did try to persuade them to replace the camera, but though I was only using it for the first time I bought it back in January in readiness for the trip. Apart from taking a few pics around the house just to test it out, it then sat on my shelf for the next six weeks while I ...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Stay upright..... :P Not so easy, I've realised, with a full 25 litre tank on the front and camping gear piled high on the back, blues. The poor old DR feels decidedly top heavy. Nearly lost it a couple of times, but only when walking it, not riding. I'm gradually getting used to it though. I got a...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

I’m back now from the Scottish part of the trip which I did with Tim, an old university friend and roommate. My DR is no match for Tim’s newly acquired Pan (1993 reg, in immaculate condition.) but it can still be a nippy beast when you need to put some miles on. It does have some quirks and peculiar...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

It's been an eventful week - the week of my departure for foreign parts. On Monday I had an off. I was riding the DR into the dealers at Letchworth to pick up spare clutch and throttle cables and an emergency replacement chain. It was a fine day. I was in a good mood. The DR is so flickable, and the...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Hi blues. Yes, you're right about taking matches. I've added it to my list. I'm also thinking about taking an electronic lighter. Neither matches nor ordinary lighters work very well in the Pamirs at 15,000 feet. Get a load of this. I don't usually share anything from the Daily Mail, the UK's most r...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

It's getting scarily close to launch date now (12 March) and I still have loads of things to do and yet more information to obtain. I get my finger prints taken at the Russian embassy this week. I'm riding out to Travel Dri in a couple of days to pick up a couple of travel items. The bike is going i...
