Yes. Second the Merino Wool. They work for me and my feet SWEAT. Avoid cotton, it holds the moisture in.

Sportys are cool. Unless they have chinese wheels (?) ;)

They are still a little spendy though. But cool overall.

Re: 2nd gear slips out

Bad gear probably. If you are an amateur mechanic, I would suggest that you leave the repair to a pro. There are alot of parts, gears/washers/bushings, etc in a transmission, and one piece put in there wrong will hose the whole deal. Kinda sux, cuz I don't think that the bike is worth the price of t...

Re: Are we experiencing a "practical bike" renaissance?

Oh man, no more 500 twins  . Kinda like the way Ford let the Ranger die. WTF are they thinking? "Let's not improve on our product for 20 years, and then say that the market is dead for our 20 year old product, so we'll stop producing it." great. I think I was going to say something profound las...

Re: Are we experiencing a "practical bike" renaissance?

Practical and small cc's are covered by a fair amount of scooters in the US market. Granted, they aren't exactly motorcycles. I think that you are also missing the boat on a few great bikes (like the bonneville, sv650, GS500, etc.) Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the kind of bikes that you menti...

Are you familiar with the area? You need to go about 1/2 hour out for any decent riding :) I may be out and about on the weekend.

Re: Brand new rider with a question

Ditto on above. I was scared 'poop'-less the first time I ever went on an interstate. Just know this. You WON'T blow off the back of the bike :) Once you get comfortable with 55, get on the interstate for just one exit - goose it up to 65 or whatever the speed limit is and then just get off at the n...

The era of the motorcycle will be over when the last motorcyclist is run down by some teenaged twit sexting while driving. :rubberchicken:

Re: This Week: 2011 Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS - VOTE NOW

I like the auto trans. It may encourage more people to ride, but I think that it will be a "meh..." kind of a thing for most of the biker crowd. But it may encourage some of the scooter riders out there, and I've ridden automatic scooters and they are fun in their own way!! Hopefully the electronics...

Re: Cleaning Chrome Exhaust

First clean all of the grit off the exhaust when it is COLD  so you don't scratch the finish on step two. second, get the exhaust real hot again and use a Natural fiber cloth like cotton to scrub off the hopefully remelted plastic. If it's really on there you can also use wood scraper (sin...

Man, I'm sorry that you had such a tough time with the Harley shops, but you know, every shop is different so in another area it could have been the BMW dealers that were no funs :) (Of course, not in my area :D ) Good luck finding the bike that's right for you :) Gear - The helmet is a good one. You're right Mike, but being the type of guy inclined to wrench on things, I'd rather get a nice 250 from the 70s or 80s (tech equivalent to this thing) for an eighth to a quarter of the price :D

Re: better bike to cross the country

People can go cross country on anything from 50cc scooters to big ol goldwings. And (almost) any bike you get can be retrofit with items to make your trip safer and more enjoyable. So, without really answering your question, I think the biggest determining factor here is COMFORT. On a long distance ...

Re: Plausible? 2nd car replacement / yacht on 2 wheels in TX

I have an '05 R1200GS. I use it for daily commute and 2-up touring. I just did a 3 week 2-up camping trip from Washington DC to New Orleans and back. Did Blue ridge parkway and the Natchez trace. Depending on your stature (if you have a 31" or longer inseam) An r12gs could also be thrown into your l...
