well, i have an 83 yamaha xj650lk turbo, and your best source of parts (other than a parts bike) is ebay, or bike bandit.com

I don't know about the honda, but bikebandit has had a couple of small parts that really surprised me.

well, I use mobil one redcap. I will be switching to amsoil on the next change. I believe in synthetics, run it in all my vehicles... 5 bikes, 4 cars, and 2 trucks. I have been using fram filters, but am switching to stp filters (available at autozone for about $5), after reading a few articles on o...

my son is fixing up an 84 nighthawk as a first bike. he too had no fuel flow, until we rebuilt and synced the carbs. we had a torn diaphram, that we repaired... the new one was $124. once we rebuilt and synced, we had fuel flow. it appears that his were bad enough that they could not pull a vacuum t...

there is also a company called Voyager. they do trike conversions, but the conversion is actually two outrigger wheels and fenders. you still have the one drive wheel. with this setup you can put the bike back to standard config, and keep the conversion for adaptation to the next bike.

a.k.a. a "trucker right", that's where they hit the breaks and swing across the centerline like they are turning left, then they turn right. There is a degree of justification for this when pulling a long trailer, like an 18-wheeler, but this guy was in a reg F-150 pickup.

all I can say, is my first shadow WAS an 83 VT750C. I did 2 cross-country's on it, put over 30,000 miles on it, then sold it to a buddy who took it to over 100,000 miles. the ONLY problem I ever had was that I had to replace the electric spark control unit, but that was under warranty. you've been g...

John, Kal offered some really good advice. I have been riding for 35 years, and still have all my skin and parts... there is definitely something to be said for having the right gear. You mentioned gravel roads... a few, or many? I'm not up on dual-purpose (on and off road, we used to call them endu...

based on what you described... I doubt it. I would check: 1) the battery connections. 2) the solenoid (starter relay) connections. 3) the starter itself. I have a local auto shop that can test/rebuild starters. The coils MIGHT explain not wanting to start when hot, but probably not the loss of power...

based on rebuilding forks on an 80 GL1100, an 81 XS1100, an 83 XJ650LK, an 84 Nighthawk 650, an 85 V65 Magna, and a 99 SPirit 1100, there should be no special tool involved. Remove the wheel, brake caliper, fender, loosen the pinch bolts on the tripletree clamps and remove both sides of the forks. O...

Finally, we have a fork leg!

On 3/20/05, I had an accident on my Shadow 1100. Old guy pulled a farmer right on me. When he hit the brakes and crossed the center line, I figured he was turning left... he wasn't. I got a little banged up, bike got about 800 banged up... fork tubes, left fork leg, pegmount, shifter assy, bars, gri...

well, I did 2 cross country's on an 83 VT750C Shadow. Ran it to around 32-33K, sold it to a buddy, and he took it over 100K

Probably will be a better starter bike... good torque, very forgiving.

Enjoy!
