Howdy fellas, say if I wanna replace my pesky stock petcock, do I HAVE to go with the stock vacuum operated model? ($$)
Or can I just use a single-output 'gravity' type? (less $$)
thx,
Rich

XJ650 won;t start now...
Bike: 1982 XJ 650
Problem: Crank but will not start
What changed: This morning, I placed jumper cables on it, and for a short moment got the leads on th ewrong terminals.
Saw sparks, placed them on correctly, then the problem surfaced: no start.
ps. DOES have spark at the plugs!
;-(
Thanks,
Rich

Well...Start Me Up!
So, the free XJ650 is lookin good so far(actually is an 82' I found out) So, what is does is this: I'll apply full choke, hit the start button & it might give a little initial chug, like it's teasing me that it kinda wants to start, but it won't really start until I have cranked on it for some t...

Problem is fixed!!
So, fellas, here's what happened with this XJ650 & the high revs & shutting off: Apparently when I put the carb rack back on, I got the throttle linkage bungled up with one of the boot clamps. You know whtose nice little thumb tabs they make on em, that let you maneuver the clamps around th ...

Cahbs
Ok gents: so I'm getting fuel to the carbs.
Spark, etc
What it does (after having sat for a few hours) is :
I'll turn the key ON, turn to RUN, & it fires right up, revs fairly high, then shuts right off, not to start again, until I apparently let it sit for some time.

All good stuff, thanks fellas. I can say additionally, that: 1) the gas only is 1 day old(now) 2) there is spark at the plug 3) Battery is new I will certainly check the petcock flow, and fuel in th ebowl, in that order. Thanks much. Oh, and then I'll get the Haynes manual: I've been delaying it , b...

A real general problem fellas, forgive me. Bike: 1981 Yamaha Maxim 650. Problem: turning over but will not start. History: Carbs were just cleaned by a very good bike guy: not a total rebuild, just a good cleaning.(I hear they really needed it too) So, I put them back on yesterday, and set petcock t...
