Re: GS 450 is possessed

Stuck float on the left carb. Most probably the float needle valve has some gunk in it. It's likely just gasoline that gushes out. The crankcase breather vents into the airbox, so there's usually some oil in the bottom of the airbox. I think you need to pull the left carb, crack it open and clean it...

Re: Scooter stolen...what now?

Another resurrection? This guy's scooter was stolen over 3 years ago. It's probably long gone by now.

Re: How dangerous is lightning on a bike?

After this xp I am wondering what is the best thing to do in an electric storm if you are already on the bike? In case you're wondering, yes I'm still here. Being that I got off very lucky (in that the main bolt hit the nearby guardrail), I'm well aware that a direct strike is likely to kill. Over ...

Re: Some things to look out for

Don't forget to stop in the tire tracks of the lane and not the middle where more oil will be. Better yet, avoid the middle of the lane at all intersections, even if you don't plan on stopping. I learned this the hard way years ago when I was riding down the center and some dufus ran a red light. I...

Re: Your favorite month to ride is...?

It was a tough call between January or February. Temps can be in the upper 70s / lower 80s around that time of year. Perfect for a ride. The summer months are the worst for riding around here (but I do anyway). Lots of sweating and you can burn your hands on the brake and clutch levers if your bike ...

Re: Motorcycle Parking Questions

I figure if someone parks over to one side of a full size space, they don't mind if another bike shares it. I don't mind sharing, so I specifically park off to one side. If you don't want to share your parking space, just park right in the middle and diagonally so another bike won't fit in the space.

Re: Does carrying a passenger warrant adjusting my chain?

I always adjust to the loose end of the spec (30mm on my bike too) regardless of the load. It's loose enough that the chain won't tighten up like a banjo string when the suspension is compressed, yet not so loose that there's any unwanted chain movement. Over the years I noticed that keeping it at t...

Re: Repair History? Carfox?

Carfax only does cars and light trucks. No bikes. While there's no guarantee of completeness, I find their reports useful. It's pretty easy to wash the title of a salvaged car, but that info is unlikely to get past the Carfax folks.

Re: Restrictors

Rev limiters are commonly built into the CDI. It's the best place to do the job. Given that, it's unlikely that such a limiter would only be activated in the top 3 gears. A simple CDI rev limiter merely cuts the spark to one of the cylinders when the rev count reaches a certain point. It would have ...

Re: The Idiot's Guide To Dropping A Bike

Hey Flesher, Your profile doesn't say, but if you have a late model Nighthawk ('91-'03) you can still get a centerstand for it. It's the best accessory money you'll ever spend. Let me know if you need the part #. Fortunately, I haven't scratched a bike in nearly 20 yrs. It's not for lack of trying t...
