Re: Accelerating from a stop on ninja 500

I don't know what the manual says, but it's probably written for saving fuel and keeping things smooth. I usually shift around 6k rpm if I don't have anyone in front of me and I want a non-racing, but pretty quick start. With someone in front of me, I'll shift a little sooner since the throttle is q...

Re: Ear plugs?

Anybody out there wear them regularly? Or is it just a long-trip thing? Is there a certain kind that's preferable for riding (why)? Or would those little cheapy ones that I squinch up and stick in my ear at NASCAR events work? Like dieziege, only my first few miles were without earplugs. It makes a...

I'm convinced now that the only way you can buy a used ninja 500 is if you watch craigslist every day, and when you see a listing you immediately go to the seller, cash in hand, grab the bike and run. That's exactly what I did last year. I had been watching for a few months and finally f...

Kangaroos... now I bet that's a fun one. :) I had a hawk take flight right next to me on the side of the road yesterday. That was one big bird that scared me since I didn't see it until it took off. I must've jinxed myself. Since I posted this, I've "enjoyed" a few quickstops due to inatte...

Nice video. Looks fun. I hope to make it over there some day myself. However, what's with the braking around the corners? I was taught to brake before hitting the curve and accelerate through it. It looked like the pickup truck used less brake in the curves than any of the motorcycles in view. :? I ...

Today I must add wild turkeys and a turtle the size of a large frisbee. That turtle was staring me down. My helmet also had the pleasure of meeting up with a dragonfly. Bonk!

Animal magnet

I went out this afternoon just before sunset to take one of my 50 mile joy ride routes through country roads south of Apex, NC. I know there are plenty of animals around, but today, as I was riding near the Sharron Harris nuclear power plant, I saw a big bird walking across the road in front of me. ...

I've tried that... left, middle and right cutout, the kickstand, the starter... nothing works for me.
