I have a similar question. I bought a used Honda 250 this past March. Now, I notice that there is a bit of corrosion on the chain. How do I deal with it? Would a little WD40 or gear lube be all that it takes to correct the matter? Or should I replace the chain? Should I do something else? If so, how...

Yes, I understand the Ninja 250 is very peppy with an incredibly high red line. If you are looking for a sport bike, I understand that the Suzuki CF500 is somewhat tame. As a beginner, the last thing you want is a screamer. Also, when I took the course last year, one instructor's parting words were,...

Hey Imp, The Vulcan 500 was my primary choice for a bike. However, I settled on a used 250 as my first bike. I plan to ride it for a year and then upgrade, perhaps to a new Vulcan 500. If you do get the Vulcan, please let me know what you think of it. My main concern was the six gears. I am senile a...

Ticktock, Good for you. My driving record is spotless. I have no accidents, no claims made, no convictions or court supervision for traffic offenses. In fact, my last traffic ticket, the second of two, was issued in 1987. Regardless, for full coverage, i.e., 250K/500K, Geico wanted over $500 per yea...

That is a scary thought about motorcycle salesmen sizing up new riders as fresh meat. However, one must remember that you are dealing at arm's length with these jokers. Also, having done a lot of homework on the internet about the various bikes I had interest in, I found myself better informed about...

I agree. One can never get enough training. Remember, although we bikers like to minimalize the fact, it is dangerous on the road. Not because of what bikers do. Rather, it is the knuckleheads in the cars who are oblivious to us. Not only did the MSF basic riders course teach me to be a better and s...

Well folks, I did it. I bought the used Rebel. It has highway bars, and I am having a windshield installed. Chicago can be cool in the spring and fall. BORN TO RIDE!

I don't own a bike. However, I passed the MSF course and have the motorcycle classification on my DL. Today, based on the recommendations in this forum, I bought Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling." It will be my bedtime reading; something to fashion my dreams. I think my first machine will ...

Skier,

Thanks for the input. As for bike selection, since I am turning 50 later this year, an upright cruiser may be the choice. I don't think I will select any of the GSX-Rs as my ride.
