No such thing as a "mild" 650 sportbike. However, if you respect its capabilities and take it easy, you can do fine. You twist the throttle on that thing and you are doing 80 before you know it, and there is nothing mild about wrecking at 80 regardless of what CC bike you are on. Just be c...

My first bike is a Bandit 1200, I should have started on something smaller, but the deal on this used bike was incredible. I am not an aggresive rider by any means and was originally looking at cruisers before reading the reviews of this bike and it comfortable stance. So far I have not had any prob...

When you ar ein stop and go traffic or traffic where you are only going 2-5 mph, and 1st gear at idle will be faster than that. Ride the clutch and use it to manipulate your speed rather than letting it all the way out, braking letting it all out, braking, etc. YOu should be able to maintaina consis...

Everyone stalls it from time to time

No big deal when you are starting out, it is showing you are respecting the bike in a way. Practicing on your own in a parking lot will give you confidence fast, and after a few times out it will be second nature. Try thinking of the clutch as a reverse throttle. When you let it out SLOWLY it will b...

Save some money

5 grand is a hell of a budget for a first bike. I would check craigs list and ebay for used bikes in the 400-600cc range and go with a 90' erra bike in the 2K Range. See if you like it(You will) spend some of that extra money on really good protective gear and get in the habit of wearing it whenever...

Its all in how you drive

I agree with the last post, you lack of driving experience in general will have more to do with your choice than how powerful the bike is. The ability to be comfortable on the bike is huge, but more importantly to anticipate and decide what to do to avoid situations BEFORE they occur is even more im...

Glad you are OK

I was freaked out too about riding before my Saftey Course, but had couple friends tech me some things in a parking lot and ride around with me, and 3 times out in residential areas and no problems. Couple things that really helped me. Look where you want the bike to go! When entering a curve, dont ...
