Not sure if it makes any difference but I usually fill my bike straight up.
Me too. Can get more gas in that way.

I just cleaned the chain and wheels on my bike.
Messy job, ain't it? I usually end up using pumice soap to get that combo of grease and brake dust off my hands after chain cleaning.

Re: First Bike - A Deal vs Patience

The advice I usually give folks is, if you've never ridden a motorcycle before, wait until after your MSF course to pick the bike you want. The reason is, if you haven't ridden before, you probably don't have a good idea of how different styles of bike feel . Before my MSF course in 2005, I was dead...

Re: 2002 1200 Bandit won't start

I believe a Bandit 1200 has a vacuum fuel petcock, that could possibly be your problem. If the petcock is not working correctly, or the vacuum hose has a leak, or is not connected securely at either end, fuel starvation can happen - there won't be enough vacuum pressure to keep the fuel line open, o...

Re: 2002 1200 Bandit won't start

How many months was it stored without running? Was fuel left in the carburetors during that time? Did the fuel have a good stabilizer in it? If the bike was put away with fuel in it, was the tank all the way full? Modern fuel is crap. Two of our five bikes are carb'd..... I'm extraordinarily careful...

Re: Starting problem

Typically, that's a battery that doesn't have enough juice to turn the starter. The clicking sound is the solenoid cycling over and over as it is not getting enough amps. When you say you installed a "fully charged battery".... how was it charged? How old is the battery? There's lots of reasons a ba...

I feel for ya, Pete. I just got my Tiger running after two months of being down with a weird electrical problem involving multiple fuses (including one fuse Triumph separated from the rest of the fuses and buried at the bottom of the bike... :? )

Re: Helmets, you need to know this

Centerstand65, if I understand you right, you prefer to wear old, used helmets? Do you know anything about the history of these helmets? And can I ask HOW old? I assume you're aware the expanded polystyrene layer inside a helmet's shell stops being effective crash protection for your brain after abo...

Re: Cruiser for a Returning User

I also have long been in love with the look of the Suzuki Intruder 700, 750 and 800 from the 90's. Almost bought one of these instead of my Shadow. Either of you have any experience / thoughts on either of these options? Ditto Jack, apologies for the delayed response. I never rode an Intruder 800, ...

Re: Cruiser for a Returning User

I agree with Jack on the Shadow 1100 suggestion. Shadow 1100's from the early 2000's are one of the best deals in used bikes going at the moment, IMO. Dirt cheap - my stepdaughter picked one up in 2016 for $500, that "wasn't running" according to the buyer. After charging the battery, and putting ga...

Re: Catalytic Converter

Apparently different areas got the catalytic converter model in different years. You'd think it would be easy to find an authoritative reference on the internet, but I searched for awhile in vain. If you compare pictures of an earlier V Star 650 and a later one, you'll notice the pipes with the cat ...

Re: What did you do today...

Well not today, actually on Friday two days ago..... picked up a used 2013 Kawasaki KLX250S to begin doing some off-pavement riding. KLX250S 11022018.jpg It's the other half of a pair with my wife's new 2018 Yamaha XT250 we purchased in September. Long-time forum members might remember I had a 2005 ...
