There are a bunch of people near me who commute on gsx-r 750s... I've seen three in the parking lot of the industrial park where I work. I see quite a few on the freeway as well. Just ride what you own. As far as theft goes... I won't say it isn't a problem in this area. I've got the fancy scorpio a...

Ummm.... the problem with your "I'll just be looking at whale excrement anyway" thesis is that, without at least some chemical analysis, it can be very difficult to tell symbiotic from parasitic. Mistakes have been made in the past.

Zagnut, great ramble... much appreciated. :D Pretty much hit the nail on the head -- south to Addison, a bunch of traffic, roads that are all torn up/still being built, and nuttiest of all no filtering/lane splitting (or severely constrained splitting) ... which pretty much rules out motorcycle comm...

DZ, what part of Dallas are you headed to? Have you decided where you'll live or what the commute will be? We've got family and friends in Dallas and Ft Worth, so its a little familiar. I've been looking at places around Little Elm, The Colony, and so forth... my employer is in one of those cities ...

I suspect I can get more for the bike in CA just because the CA-specific smog junk (carbon filter on the fuel tank vent, which all told reduces the fuel capacity by 0.2 gallons) will probably be a negative in TX and normal in CA. The company isn't paying for the move as such. They wrote me a bonus c...

I kinda figured that flat-as-a-pancake Dallas would be short on good MC roads. I mostly ride the 250 on the interstate, and CA interstates average higher speeds than the Dallas-area interstates I've been on...out of breath at 85 isn't so true but the brakes seem scary weak if you are doing 95 and ha...

Question... Switching States

OK, so here I am... haven't posted much in a while but now I've got a question. My beneficent employer has requested, under pain of pay-raise and bonus, that I relocate to Texas. To the northern Dallas metro area to be specific... the lead-up to that is part of why I haven't been participating as mu...

I have nearly 14,000 miles on a pair of Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants. Not bad to remove when I get to the office, nor to put back on before going home, but sometimes a bit much to put on for a quick ride to lunch. I don't think I'd bother with the knee pads but it would look sweet I'll grant you. Of c...

Do you really spend a lot of time on the 5 with that bike? Last time I was there traffic was flowing at 90+ most of the time. What's that like on a ninja250? Umm... when -Holiday was out here we rode a little bit of the 5, him on his 1200 and me on my 250... we were pretty much the fastest things m...

Yes, I still feel the love... despite needing to shell out untolled bajillions of dollars for a new rear tire that won't wear out after 10,000 miles. Well, after 9,000 miles....

Beats a car any day.

My poor bike, my poor bike! Back on May 1st of this year she had only 3 miles... now, barely September 1st, this: http://violetcatastrophe.org/gallery2/d/2711-1/Image_105_.jpg Yep, 10,000 miles (that's 16093.44 kilometers to the rest of the world) in 123 days. Not exactly ironbutt but then again I w...

Had a mildly amusing one this morning.... I gear up and hop on my ninjette, ignition to on (oil light lights), pull the clutch, ignition kill off, hit the starter... nothing... So went through the basics... kick stand position (down, but I flipped it up), gear (1st, but I switched it to neutral)... ...

Just drive out, pick it up, and drive back. Or deligate a minion to the task. That's what I'd do. If you are pressed for time take a bus/airplane out, rent a vehicle, and drive back. Or ride back for that matter. And next time figure out shipping before you buy. You can call shippers (yellow, et al....

That's a bit heavy for interstate hill climbing but not bad otherwise. If I fill up my hard luggage, my tank bag, my bladder, and everything else I can think to fill, I'm probably adding 300lbs to my ninjette... it still goes pretty well but doesn't like climbing hills fast or launching from stoplig...

Really practice braking...as if it really matters. A story from the ride home last night... I'm cruising along at about 55MPH on a fairly smooth-flowing but tighly packed freeway when it has one of those "everybody hit the brakes" moments which are the most dangerous times to be on a freeway (I've b...

Costco (at least around here) switched to filling all tires with nitrogen a year or so ago. No extra cost. It works fine, lasts a long time which is what I like...tires don't autodeflate as fast.

9K and 3 tires? How many burnouts are you doing on that poor 500??? My bike will cross 8000 miles on the ride home tonight... to think that 98 days ago it had 3 miles on the odometer... and I'm still on the factory tires. I'll probably change the rear at 10,000 miles or so. If anyone gets a ...
