Welcome, Local 3598 in Gurnee,IL, just about a minute south of Wisconsin. Just started riding, well almost. Still working on the bike, not quite running right. A bike is slightly a different mechanical animal than a big block V8. Love to see pics of the bike when your done personalizing it.

Meow being a car guy all my life and not a bike guy, how do I go about lubing cables, and how do I adjust the clutch properly. I am going to rip down the carbs this week replacing all of the boots lines and hoses. I am a bit nervous about the carbs. I can rip apart a Holly or a Quadrabog with my eye...

You could also buy an old ugly bike to start out on. A bike that someone would have to be despeate to steal. That's what I bought, but I am so **** retentive that I have to fix all the blemishes before I even take it out of the barn.

Wow, thanks for al the quick replies!! It'll start and run on a new battery, but it charges intermittantly. I think Mr.9000 has it hit on the head. I haven't gotten my manual yet, so I'm not sure where to find the regulator or what the tolerances are. The previous owner replaced the rectifier. Does ...

Hello from northern Illinois!!!!

Hey everybody, jumped the gun and had been posting to the New Biker Forum before noticing that I hadn't introduced myself. I will say that this is definitely the friendliest forum on the net. I have bought my first "project", a '79 Yami XS650 Special. I will post pics and updates as I go a...

OK, Bought a bike

The bike I bought, (see avatar) is a 1979 Yamaha XS650 Special. The guy I bought it from said it ran but had a charging issue. I bought a new battery for it, cleaned the tank, replaced all of the fuel lines, cleaned the petcocks, replaced the plugs and gave te bike an overall scrub. It had been sitt...
