bandannas, wear two or three

Bandannas have been part of my gear for years. One goes on top of my head and around my ears. This does three things. It keeps me from ripping my ears off when I plug on or plull off the helmet. It serves as a helmet liner I can throw in the wash and keeps my helmet sweet and fresh smelling. Finally...

V-Rod not a cruiser, V-Max under-rated

cruisers have your feet in front of you... the Fatboy, would not be a cruiser. Where the hell would you keep *your* feet on a Fatboy? Behind your head? My feet were on the floorboards as I recall. OK, point taken, feet forward more than a standard, but not as radical as a Springer I rode, which may...

ah, there's the rub

I've been waiting for this... the V-Max is not a cruiser because it is not a V-twin... cruisers have your feet in front of you... By the first criteria, a Ducati V-twin would be a cruiser and by the second criteria the biggest selling model in Harley-Davidson histroy, the Fatboy, would not be a crui...

V-Max King of the Power Cruisers

We seem to be building concensus here. I had a 1998 V-Max for six years. Rode 67,000 miles. I regret selling it.

Oval or round?

First question is what shape is your head. Some helmets are oval shaped, such as Shoei and HJC. Others are round, such as Arai, however in recent years Arai has added a line of oval shaped helmets. We had a Shoei and an HJC. I was surprised at how well the HJC was made and frankly could not see the ...

Surgeon's Knot keeps laces tied, pulls loose when needed

I thought I had invented a new knot until I found out that it is called the Surgeon's Knot. It works great on the new, round synthetic laces. That and many more ways of lacing and knotting shoes and boots are discussed at Ian's Shoelace Site.

Ultimately, it is almost always operator error

A single pebble trapped under my front tire low sided me on a right hand corner. Melted asphalt sealant at a stop sign in August caused my front tire to lock up then pitch me off in a high side. The blower equipped pickup I was racing at the drag strip was so loud I could not hear my own engine and ...
