Gash in Tire

I was looking over my bike yesterday and saw this gash in my tire. The tire only has 3800 miles on it and is the stock tire on a 2009 Kawasaki er-6n. Can anyone tell if this looks just cosmetic or should I be more concerned? Should I be replacing the otherwise good tire? http://www.flickr.com/photos...

I am surprised they had you taking lessons on the Bandit 600cc. I was in Amsterdam last month and it seemed that everyone rode scooters and there were very few 600cc+ bikes available.
