Re: This Week: 2017 Indian Roadmaster - VOTE NOW

Uncool. I really like Indian (well, the current Polaris-owned version of the Indian Motorcycle Company), especially the Scout. Even retro styling has its ebbs and flows, and 1950s-inspired styling just looks kitschy and crass now. Plus, the LED screen integrated into the dash looks terrible. What ha...

Re: This Week: 2016 BMW R NineT Scrambler - VOTE NOW

It's quite good looking, especially for a company that isn't exactly known these days for making good looking bikes. And it's a nice take on retro styling, also unusual for a company that doesn't often do retro (odd considering its long history). I'd prefer a bigger seat and spoked wheels, but I ass...

Re: Total Motorcycle Cool Wall - Suggest the next bike to review

Hmmm, there hasn't been a suggestion in a while. How about the BMW Scrambler? Reviews are starting to pop up. How would the forum feel about these socalled "hipster" bikes?

I really like these supermoto-styled naked bikes. You get good visibility because of the high motocross seat design, minimal bodywork, light weight, great power-to-weight ratios, and they tend to be relatively slim. Good suspension travel tends to smooth out bad roads too. They make great urban/comm...

Re: Help choose used/new 500 cc motorcycle

Interesting that you say that. Frankly, I've been a little confused about ignoring the VS650, given that it's reputation is legendary. It's supposed to be a little top heavy, and while I am 6 feet tall, I don't exactly prefer big and heavy motorcycles (not much love for those big heavy cruisers). I...

CB500X is a great choice, I'd choose that over a V-Strom.

Re: This Week: 2016 Triumph Rocket III Touring - VOTE NOW

It pains me to give an uncool to a Triumph. Somehow the ridiculous excess doesn't suit the brand. And at twelve years old with just incremental changes, it's getting on a bit, isn't it?

Re: Any thoughts, advice, recommendations on Bluetooth motorcycle helmets

My two cents (late) I have the SMH10 and I love it. Use it for phone, GPS and speaking with other riders in my group and it works fine. I wouldn't go back to no comm ever again. Same here. If I'm riding alone, I don't use mine much, but it really improves the dynamic of motorcycling with a pillion ...

Isn't amazing and somewhat depressing on how fast we are aging? I was in my mid-forties when I joined this website, now I am on the wrong side of 50........and even if I couldn't ride a proper motorbicycle, there is no way in hell I would be seen dead on one of these abominations. Same here. I'm tr...

Re: This Week: 2017 Can-Am Spyder F3-S Daytona 500 - VOTE NOW

I'm curious if these things sell a lot in places where you can filter/lane split (incidentally, I live in a country where you can). In states where you can't, there's arguably no disadvantage to using a Can-Am compared to a bike. In California (and most places around the world), having a Can Am mean...

Re: This Week: 2016 Hyosung GT650R - VOTE NOW

Remember how crappy the rep of Hyundai was in the 80s? And now they're a competitive, viable choice. Maybe it really will take that long for Hyosung to be competitive with Japanese brands. I'd like them to be successful someday. But right now, the GT650R is completely uninteresting. And it's just $4...

Re: This Week: 2017 Yamaha SCR950 - VOTE NOW

I like the Bolt, and I like this one even more. Awesome for me. But it seems not enough people complained about the Bolt's gauges that Yamaha just carried over the same rinky little, cheap, 80s-looking LED display. Is a rotating needle so much more expensive? I appreciate most of the SCR's "retro st...

Re: Most Important Gear??

This doesn't exactly fall under the usual protective gear concerns, but don't forget hearing protection. Even with a full face helmet, noise at highway speeds can easily reach above 100dB and damage your ears. The quirky thing about hearing damage is your ears don't heal (specifically, the hair cell...

Re: This Week: 2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado - VOTE NOW

What an awesome line of bikes. Personally, I prefer the minimalist California Custom or the Audace, but you just can't go wrong (or uncool) with a Guzzi. Come to think of it, I wonder why Guzzi is the only Euro manufacturer who manages to make pretty cool cruisers.

Re: Any thoughts, advice, recommendations on Bluetooth motorcycle helmets

I wouldn't worry about a dedicated BT helmet. Just pick the helmet you like, make sure it has speaker pockets in it, and use a Sena helmet system. I had the same question last year, and am quite happy with my Sena SMH-5FM. +1 I'd prioritize fit over whether a helmet has integrated BT or not (and be...

Re: This Week: 2016 Harley-Davidson Roadster

It's . . . just okay. It's nice that a Sportster is being released with a bit more ground clearance, a bit better braking, and so on. But it's nothing a buyer couldn't have done on their own with an old Sporty. When was the last really significant engineering change for the Sportster? EFI in 07? You...
