Re: Through the LA desert on a metal horse with no name.

That is a great start to your moto blog. You are recording your thoughts, experiences, and most importantly you posted a picture. We demand photographs. This will also be a great place for you to ask question, but don't be disappointed if a people don't post a lot of comments. Your blog will allow y...

Re: 1200 as a starter

Jamers, I am not a cruiser rider so it is a bit hard to judge, but you did ride before and you appear to have an adult attitude. I was in exactly the same position almost exactly a year ago, looking at bikes for a return to motorcycling. For me, the choice was between a Honda NC700X, Suzuki DL650A, ...

It is my favorite from this entire year, but it has a glaring flaw and that got me thinking more about photographic editing software. Do you see it? I do ever...

Re: How many crashes in how many years?

James, There are a number of online locations where you can create a map of the states that you have visited and then down load the image to your computer. I used epgSoft >>> http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/ . I created both a visited states map, and also a map of provinces in Canada, two se...

Re: How many crashes in how many years?

No crashes so far in 9 years and about 100k miles. I dropped my first bike a hand full of times in the driveway (really bad pavement). Closest I came was being forced onto an off ramp by a dump truck and discovering that all traffic on said off ramp was stopped. Didn't have enough braking distance ...

Day 358 : Saturday May 2, 2015 : Miles 25782 Blues, I write software for a geophysics firm and I love my job. Nor am I angry with the firm. With the rapid decline in the price of oil the entire industry is getting hammered and our company has no choice but to make rather dramatic changes in our labo...

Re: This Week: 2006 Buell Lightning Long XB12Ss - Vote Now

So many innovations that, even today, are barely seen in current naked sporty bikes; fuel in the frame, oil in the swingarm, belt drive, single disk perimeter front brake, muffler mounted completely beneath the bike. Just an amazing piece of engineering. A lot of innovations are of little practical...

Day 357 : Friday May 1, 2015 : Miles 25782 I took my bike to the dealership today for its first annual inspections. I have been riding for almost a year, just a few days to go, but I am not all that happy about how much I got to ride this first year. Some months ago, I took a 12% pay cut, and today ...

Day 352 : Sunday April 26, 2015 : Miles 25689 I rode Oklahoma on Saturday. I visited all 7 Tour of Honor memorial sites in Oklahoma as well as 5 location with 7 EMV Doughboy statues. It was a fun ride, but eastern Oklahoma is a lot better then western Oklahoma. http://hansonmoto.smugmug.com/2015-Apr...

Re: Bucket List Rides

I have a long list. I want to do a Tour of Honor ride in ever state. I like how this goal will make me go to hundreds of places I would not normally choose to visit. After I am retired, I want to do this all over again in just one year. I want to ride to Deadhorse Alaska, Yellowknife Northwest Terri...

Day 348 : Wednesday April 22, 2015 : Miles 24454 It is just great having a new chain and set of sprockets on the moto. No more nasty crunching sounds. Last Saturday I drove, yes drove, down to Athens and back, about an hour and half each way for a Scouting event, an OA call out. I wanted to ride the...

Hi Bill, I would like to welcome you to the Total Motorcycle Forum! There are a lot of people who are starting to ride later in life, or restarting to ride and this is a good place to come for a bit of advice as long as you are a bit patient. I rode for a bit when I was young and just restarted abou...

Day 344 : Saturday April 18, 2015 : Miles 24387 I installed my new 530 chain and sprockets today. It took about 4.5 hours from start to finish, but this was a new maintenance item for me and I wanted to take my time. There where no significant problems, but there where a lot of individual tasks and ...

Re: New riding gear

Alabama is hot and it can also be humid which makes it even harder. Before you pick your gear, it is a good idea to understand how your body works when riding in hot weather. Tom Austin wrote a great article for the IBA in how to ride in hot weather and I have provided a link to a PDF that is availa...
