How to check clutch on used bike?

I'm going to look at a used bike and want to be sure the clutch is not almost dead. In a car with a manual trans, you find a (big) tree and make solid contact with the trunck. Then at idle, slowly let the clutch out. It should kill the engine and show you have a solid clutch. But if it allows the en...

Re: Looking for opinions on 90's Suzuki DR125 and GN125

I think I understand your point. What I don't like is signing up for forums just for a few questions. Some do let guests post but the ones I've seen do not (I cannot only assume its to keep the bots off). I have enough junk mail already. Since this is a very well rounded forum, it seems to me to pos...

Looking for opinions on 90's Suzuki DR125 and GN125

Opinions on early 1990's Suzuki DR 125 and GN 125 I found on craiglist. This would be for in town riding only but some trail would be nice. I like the dual sport of the DR but condition is more important due to age of bikes. What I want to know is do either of these bikes have known issues short of ...

Re: Q: Free TMW stickers for SASE or $5 donation?

No matter what token is given, an option of a traditional donation should be included for those that just want to give. Just my 2 cents ---That's a Joke.

Re: Q: Free TMW stickers for SASE or $5 donation?

Any chance of either lapel pin for my riding jacket or a long sleeve shirt or sweat shirt? Not for the same price but would add some practicality to the donation. I have no problem putting in some $$. I know stickers are easier to sell but I don't like putting stickers on my cage. Maybe a $5 donatio...

Re: What to be aware of when looking at purchasing a scooter

As far as non-Japanese scooters what about Vespa? What issue do they seem to have? Do the Brit's have any leading contenders? And Kymco I've not heard of before. Where are they made and what issue do they seem to have? I ask about issue because every maker of something has at least one or more issues.

What to be aware of when looking at purchasing a scooter

Come this fall when prices fall I may consider getting a used scooter. I would like to be aware of what to look for and stay away from. Features/issues like: 1. Tire or rim sizes that are too small for saftly riding at 55 or 65 mph. 2. MFG's that have had ongoing quality issues due to cheaply made b...

Re: What are your thoughts on rider education? (MSF or beyon

The instructor thing is a real issue in my opinion. I have had several great instructors and some doing it for the money. The lack of passion was very clear. I don't expect all instructors to be great teachers but I do expect they all want to be there for passing on the knowledge. They do have evals...

Are there scooter that can also cruise at 65 mph ?

I don't know much about scooter but do wish to learn. What make/models will cruise (not have a death scream) at 65 mph? This is not a touring question, just if someone needed to get from point "A" to point "B" and needed to keep up in traffic how many scooters are capable of doing that now? With a C...

Re: Waving at people on scooters

The history of the wave. The wave has been used since the earliest days to indicate to others that you are unarmed. So I guess we've been waving since shortly after Cain killed Able. I thought a hand shake was to show your unarmed or is one the verification of the other? Who knows but it sounds goo...

Garmin GPS Zumo Users and FM traffic add on

Didn't want the "Garmin answer" which is why I posted it here. For those who have a Garmin with the ability to use the add on device for FM traffic avoidance/detection , see http://www8.garmin.com/traffic/ They now decribe it in different terms than just six months ago. Used to be just FM broadcast ...

Re: The Scooter Revolution has Started

One more point........for our US friends to consider..... IF gas was more expensive in USA, causing the population & business to try & use less, then maybe the US government would rethink it's foreign policy regarding operations/conflicts/wars in oil rich nations! I would be interested in the profe...

First for those on the eastern end of the pond; what is a "tosser" ? Second, I always thought scooters were excellant city bikes. Easy to park, ride, low cost and fantastic on the gas. Not for anyting else but a great city bike. If you need to get to more than just around town, then you need more th...

I don't mind riding through rain but I prefer having my rain gear on before it begins to rain hard. Nothing like wet undies for the remained of the ride.
