Re: Wretched XS

Snow, Ice, Michigan, Whatever... Winter's back in Michigan -- not that it's ever really that far away. On Nov. 30, I was walking out to the car after work, marveling at the still-green grass on the bare ground, and I remember thinking "this isn't so bad. If the snow holds off until December, I real...

Re: Wretched XS

Tampa? Hey, does anyone around here live in/near Tampa, Fla? I've got a lead on a job there, and we're looking at the possibility of moving us and our 4 elementary school age children from Michigan to Tampa. Before that, though, does anyone have any impressions / advice / opinions about the Tampa a...

Re: Wretched XS

That sucks, but look at it this way...when she gets tired of climbing up into it, or parking it, or whatever in a year or so, it'll have depreciated a lot, be in AWESOME shape, and be on the market. Then, there was the time we rented a Ford Expedition to carry some stuff (a shed) back to Home Depot....

Re: Wretched XS

Nothing Motorcycle Related But I do have an interview on Wednesday with the Ford Motor Company. I'm hoping to get into their IT Leadership Development Program when I graduate in March. Downside...I'd have to move to Detroit. Upside...more $$ and possibly cheap new cars. I'll take a Supercab Raptor,...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Funnily enough I was poring over a map of your part of the world today and thinking where I would like to travel. Tell me something: is the Upper Peninsular part of Michigan or Wisconsin? My atlas doesn't make it clear. I'm a real nerd: it bugs me when I know that I don't know something. I'll take ...

Re: SV-Wolf's Bike Blog

Good to see you back, sir. Even if you ARE grouchy, insolvent, bike-deprived and railing against northern American music. :)

Hey, I've been bike-deprived for four years. If you come to the States, spare an hour to come to Michigan and howl about it with me.

Did he buy the KLR?
Is he somewhere in Pakraqiganistan?

Re: The Blog of Blues

I always looked at my bike's windshield as a necessary evil. It gave me about 10 degrees worth of comfort in the cold, but since it mounted on the handlebars it adversely affected the handling and "feel" of the bike. I'd say I prefer riding without one...I like feeling the wind.

Re: Wretched XS

Hey, Roscow. A year off would be nice. It's four years off now for me. After reading Wrider's latest post, I feel I can share my latest achievement(?) in transportation. Namely, our Volvo turned over 200,000 miles. I pulled over to the side of the expressway and took pictures. (I'm such a nerd.) htt...

Re: Wretched XS

Okay, I've calmed down now -- following denial, anger, etc, etc... No, the bike is not going on the road this year and it's by my choice, nobody else's. Here's the deal. My oldest girl needs $2k worth of orthodontics, and if we get on it now we avoid paying triple that much later. It's structured in...

Re: Wretched XS

Wow, I just looked at the beginning of this blog, and I see I started it almost four years ago. Essentially, for the entire four years I've been a member of this forum...I haven't had a functional, legal motorcycle for a single day of it. And, with today's news that my daughter needs $2,000 of ortho...

Re: Wretched XS

Gettin' Close! Whoo! My tuition reimbursement from work just hit our checking account, so I officially have the $$ to get the old XS on the road! My wife just checked with me this morning to be sure that I'm still planning on doing that this year -- like that was ever a question. I just need to ste...

Re: So I went to the Harley Dealers yesterday and ..........

To add my two cents to the OP's subject -- I would heartily NOT recommend getting a brand-new anything as your first bike. You are going to drop it, that's going to happen. It's not a bad thing, and everybody does it -- I did it, and I'm glad I did it on a bike that was already bunged up. If you wan...

Re: Wretched XS

Getting Itchy Man. Here it is, mid-May, and the bike sits where I left it. It's not the money, it's the time. I haven't had time around work, family and studying to do any rehab on the bike. :wallbash: Then again, while we've had some really nice days to ride, we also had snow last Saturday, and th...

Re: B-King - An Odd bike's Journey

If I were getting an H-D touring bike, it'd be the Road King because it seems to have the least amount of bags, boxes, fairings, bars, lights and carp hanging off of it.

Re: B-King - An Odd bike's Journey

If it were me, I'd rent the Harley Fat Boy or Road King. I've sat on them in the dealership (never ridden one) and they have a nice, low center of gravity and great balance -- I'd think it'd be perfect for slow-speed nosing around and sightseeing.

Other'n that, I'd jump on the 250 Nighthawk, man!

Re: B-King - An Odd bike's Journey

Actually, removing the rear axle shouldn't be too hard. You already loosen it to adjust your chain, and if it's like the bikes I've owned, you just pull out a safety pin, undo a gigantic nut on one side and pull the axle out. The tire/wheel/sprocket assembly drops down but stays in place between the...
