Re: Starter Issues

This feels like we're communicating now. Good job! The marking on the flywheel for these purposes does not have to be large. The rectangle you describe might actually be it. Can you compare its position with actual piston TDC? You mention TDC marking on the flywheel cover? Could there be a viewport ...

Re: Starter Issues

Thanks for better formatting. Much more readable. If English isn't your native language you are doing very well with vocabulary and spelling. The formatting is easily fixed. The usual cause for backfire is triggering the spark while the cylinder is still filling with fuel/air on the intake stroke. W...

Re: Starter Issues

In your wall-of-text posting I didn't see you were referring to assembling a motor from pieces - which matters a very great deal. It also wasn't clear to me how many different problems you were working on. I'm old enough to require sentences and paragraphs in my text. Otherwise it's unreadable. Many...

For a 4 stroke engine it is not normal for that to happen.

THat's about as far as I'm willing to go on advice for this.

Re: Need help - engine dies after a couple of minutes

Not much info to go on.
Some chokes are nice and rich for the start but are too rich for the warmup and so the engine dies.
Chokes are not always on/off controls. Some need to be adjusted as the engine warms up.
This is my best guess based on almost no information.

Re: Front right running light broke, but blinker is fine

Since the other light/blinker is working you have a "known good" to compare. Using a multimeter start checking to see if there is the expected power at the connector. (compare the "good" connector to the "unknown") Be very, very, very careful probing inside the bulb soc...

Re: route comparison?

If I recall correctly it's mostly wide sweeping curves.
The views are awesome as are the dropoffs without guardrails.
It's the dropoffs that cause flatlanders problems.

Re: route comparison?

Difficulty in what way? If you can keep it on the road and between the lines the Million Dollar Highway will be no problem unless an oncoming touron decides they have to drive on the centerline because the edge is too scary.

Re: GS 450 is possessed

Definitely not a common symptom. Disregarding the oil - you probably have a stuck open float valve (inlet valve). One thing to try is opening the bowl drain for that carb to try flushing the obstruction thru. Might get lucky. But ultimately you probably will have to drop the carb bowl and maybe remo...
