Re: New Bike Advice - Dirt-Pavement Commuter
It's a better bike than the DR. The DR is reliable but it's a pig with less accessory/rider support.

How much was too tall? You can buy $50 lowering links and drop it 1-1.5 inches until you get comfy with her.

Re: New Bike Advice - Dirt-Pavement Commuter
When someone has to tell you that a brand has gotten more reliable- it's a sign to worry.

Re: New Bike Advice - Dirt-Pavement Commuter
Should be able to find an older KLR for cheap. I like the older look better, it's truly the best for any offroad on the list you mentioned. Once you upgrade the doohickey (google it... that's seriously the name). She's fine on the interstate for touring if a bit buzzy. Lots of aftermarket accessorie...

Yeah- that price has to come down. I always felt they started with an ST1300, ripped off the back plastics, threw a ducati front on it and said... Motto Guzzi motor?

Re: This week: 2013 Yamaha Royal Star Venture S: Vote Today
When the design was put out it was a fantastic bike that got alot of attention... back in the 90s. Yamaha has let their cruiser line fall off. I swear they are only putting out models because they have the machines just sitting there. However, for a top of the line model you'd expect more regular up...

Re: clutch
If the clutch operates fine for the first 50 miles that suggests to me it's not dry. Might have air in the system that expands when it gets hot? Air or water. Remember the fluid is hydroscopic. Flush the lines with new fluid and I bet it goes away. I bet it's a nasty color right now. Remember your ...

Re: How fast on freeways in the rain?
I don't really worry about it on the freeways. Ours clear water quickly unless it's a gully washer (great term- hope I'm using it right) and at that point your visibility is so diminished that it's the true dictator of speed. A few tips- ride in the higher portion of the road or in the tire tracks o...

Re: This week: 2013 Beta Evo 300 4 Stroke: Vote Today
Is 50 miles a good range for off road travel? Would one be advised to get the larger seat/tank option? Is the MC comfortable enough for extended riding? Neither are really an issue for a trials bike. 50 miles is plenty and since they don't have a seat- not really made for comfort the way a normal b...

Awesome. Anyone else here ride trials? I'm a GasGas fan myself so I don't know if I'm voting for this because it's our first trials bike on the board or not. Beta and GasGas are the top brands to have. Both are known for reliability and a larger dealer network. GasGas tends to be more innovative whi...

Because this article is written for Australia where almost anything you find in your normal day can kill you. Why not your starter bike?

Not a big fan of the look, but the handling is horrible giving it a fail in my book. I've ridden three separate ones (one brand spanking new) and the handling compares to an 80's V-max. It's not at all what I would expect from a sport style motorcycle.

Re: How long do you keep a bike?
My 2006 V-strom has been my go to bike. The only reason I'm considering replacing it is the fact that she's creeping over 160,000 miles. No major work needed yet, but time and wear are starting to show. I guess how long I hold onto a bike depends on it's fun factor, usability factor and reliability....

Re: This week: 2014 Yamaha FZ-09: Vote Today
The headlight does seem... incomplete. But the rest of the package at that price has me voting awesome. I may be biased as I own a 1980 XS 850 Triple (4 stroke :p ) but I've been waiting for an affordable mid level bike for shenanigans to augment my aging V-strom for awhile. This is the first one th...

Re: Just wondering--Do you listen to music while you ride?
Really? I've been using mine nonstop for two years with no problems at speeds up to 90mph (tend not to go higher than 10 mph over on public roads). Of course I have a full face on a faired bike (V-Strom). I know a few guys that prefer the earbud mount for 3/4, 1/2 helmets or unfaired bikes.
