Re: Suzuki GS500 ('92) vs Yamaha FZ1 ('01)

Why would you even consider one that someone has obviously not cared for. You may fix these minor issues quite easily, but I would be more afraid of the ones that might creep up on you down the highway...

Besides, the FZ may have been stunted. I'd worry that the long continuous wheelies you see ...

Re: Need tips to relax

Very early in my riding I realized I was watching the road trying to detect and avoid nails. I'd done that since learning to ride a bicycle.

Once I realized what I was doing it became obvious that there was no way I could even see the nails, much less avoid them, at motorcycle speed. After that I ...

That won't be motorcycling. That will be restoration. Which is a fine hobby. But it's not motorcycling.
I suspect that restorers have gotten projects like that one for free. Or been paid to take it. (sorry)

Re: Bike wont turn over

The RC cars I've observed - whir.
You're gonna have to get hands dirty. Yours or a shop's.
But since the battery is an unknown, do that first. (Disconnect ground first and reconnect it last - in case you didn't know.)

Re: Bike wont turn over

Spark plugs have nothing whatsoever to do with getting the engine to turn over. They might affect whether it starts though.

I'm guessing that you mean the bike didn't start then the starter wouldn't turn the engine over any more?

If you have bought, and installed, a new battery be sure it is ...

Re: Bike goes to rev-limiter right away

The problems are almost always "simple" after you know the answer.
Which is why it's best to start with the simple possibilities first. (Then among those you choose the easiest ones to pursue first)

Re: Bike goes to rev-limiter right away

The pipe and hole and carb sizes wouldn't have any detectable effect.
Wrong jetting would make it run badly - not way faster.
Choke in the form of a flap inside the carb body ahead of the throttle plate could wiggle a little without a problem if it is nearly aligned in free air flow.
An enrichener ...

Re: 97 ZX1100 lacking power

Mods to airbox to flow more air usually means rejetting. Mods to exhaust likewise. You have a double-whammy reason to examine jetting.

Re: Bike goes to rev-limiter right away

Going to the limiter suggests to me that you do not have an intake leak because excess air would tend to lean the mixture and it wouldn't run very well.
