87 suzuki savage

#1 Unread post by tcreeley »

I just bought a 1987 Suzuki Savage - thumper 650. Has anyone ridden these for awhile- what might be needing to be fixed? So far it is running fine. It has 16,800 miles on it. I like it. It is a 4 speed and I didn't think I'd like that but I do. Anything over 30 I don't shift again. I can slow up easily with just the engine- and no brake- like my truck! Is it worth getting a service manual? I noticed today some oil on one of the forks. I try to do everything myself- that's why I wanted one cylinder- less to work on. My other bike is a GN400 suzuki- also one cylinder and a kick start. Feels weird just turning the key to start it on the savage. I thought it was dead the first time- I forgot you have to squeeze the clutch- I was thinking maybe the starter had a dead spot and was starting to look for a wiring diagram!
