Never underestimate the ability of clashing opinions to derail a thread.

LOL....No kidding!!! Kinda like the game you used to play as a kid when you lined up all the kids and whispered something into one kids ear and by the time it got to the other end, it wasn't anything remotely close to what you had originally said.

The latest and greatest Honda Goldwings will probably be equipped with airbags. I've seen a video clip of their testing apparatus and it looks like a great idea.

OK its apparant people dont actually KNOW why or how the HANS device works. First of all it would be useless on a bike, the type of injury its designed to prevent does not occur on a bike.

A HANS device is designed to prevent a type of injury called Columar Seperation, this is where the head seperates from the spinal colum at the base of the skull and is usually fatal. This is the most common type of fatal injury in auto racing and occurs during high speed crashes into the wall (especially if the car meets the wall perpendicular, like it did for Earnhart).

The device itself attaches to the helmet and has straps that go under a riders legs but DO NOT attach to the car. The device is designed to stop the head from accelerating away from the body when the body motion is stopped by the racing harness. Basically it lets the helmet stop the momentum of the drivers head instad of his neck and transferrs the force to the drivers hips.

This device has saved the lives of a number of race drivers since its introduction. Had Earnhart been wearing this device he would likely still be alive and still racing. His death was the reason why most sanctioning bodies require the use of the device.

If you would spend a few minutes to read the thread, you'd understand this was what I was trying to say.

This happened after a 5 MPH crash.
Can't help but wonder if the weight of the helmet dragged your head to the ground. I've seen crashes involving helmetless riders where their face and head were untouched, but just about every helmetted rider ends up riding the asphalt with their face and/or head.

Remember, it was a helmet that broke Dale Earnhardt's neck.

Yeah, cuz I doubt standing on the seat had anything to do with it.

Everybody knows that spraying your head liberally with super hold hairspray provides all the protection anybody needs.[/quote]

No "poo poo"?
What brand?

I have both, full face and shorty. nothing like the wind on your face.
and nothing like the protection from the cold with the full face.
