Christmas Toy Drive and Bike Ride
Thursday, November 16, 2006 - Navarre - community.emeraldcoast.com/navarre

The Santa Rosa County 911 Dispatch Center is participating as a local drop-off location for the “Communities Caring at Christmas Toy Drive” sponsored by WEAR ABC 3.

Unwrapped new toys for children may be dropped off on weekdays through Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center, located at 4499 Pine Forest Road in Milton. The office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 23-24.

In partnership with the toy drive, Rural Metro Ambulance will hold their 1st Annual Bike Ride. Emergency Management personnel will join them in transporting collected toys to WEAR ABC 3.

Motorcyclists interested in participating in the ride will line up in the Kmart parking lot -adjacent to the intersection of Highway 90 and Avalon Boulevard - at 9 a.m. Riders will depart for the television studio at 11 a.m.

Participation in the ride costs $10 per motorcycle plus one new toy per rider. Participants can also enjoy complementary doughnuts and drinks in line-up area.

Toys collected will be distributed back to children in Santa Rosa. County employees, including those with the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, as well as local fire departments are planning to donate to the effort.

Dollar General in Pace will also be serving as a drop-off location for the public.

“Giving to others is the best gift to give yourself this holiday season, and we’re asking the community to join us in making Christmas special for some special Santa Rosa kids,” said Scott Markel, Communications Operations Supervisor. “Our employees have also volunteered to make pick ups as needed on their own time."
