Motorcycle spectacle to rev up festival

ROXAS CITY -- A motorcycle show will be held for the first time during this year's Sinadya sa Halaran festival, according to Conwell Diestro, president of Strollers Motorcycle Club here.

The First Roxas City Motorshow will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on December 6 at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center as an offering of the Club to add color to the celebration, which fused the Sinadya fiesta of the city and Halaran of the province.

The activity, which will be in the form of a contest, was conceived to showcase the creative skills and talents of enthusiasts in modifying and beautifying their motorcycles.

Cash prizes ranging from P2,000 to P8,000 and special awards will be given to winning entries with free motor oil for all participants courtesy of the sponsors. The competition will have categories for XRM models, regionwide contestants (Open Category), and Roxas City Open Category.

The special awards will be in the form of trophies for the Best in Chrome, Best in Sounds and Best in Painting Job.

The criteria will cover Paintwork (15 percent), Visual Impact & Form (10 percent), Body Undercarriage Gadgetry & Innovation (20 percent), Originality (20 percent), Overall impact (15 percent), and presentability & Cleanliness (20 percent) for a total of 100 percent.

Diestro and other officials of the Club said they brought the show, which has been going on in other parts of Western Visayas, to Capiz because the motorcycle is very popular and in wide use among Capiceños especially in the tricycle transport sector.

The wide use of the motorcycle here also speaks of the capacity of Capiceños to acquire the vehicle in various types and models, thus contributing to the growth of the local economy, which is presently part of the major goal of the government to rev up the economy that would result in attracting more investments, creating more jobs, and uplifting the living conditions of the poor.
