Bikers help collect gifts for Toys for Tots

(Lexington) November 25, 2006 - Some motorcycle enthusiasts showed their softer side and got into the holiday spirit Saturday.

Bikers with the ABATE organization collected gifts for the "Toys for Tots" campaign on Highway 1.

The ABATE group works to maintain current helmet laws that only require riders under 21 to wear a helmet.

But today their focus was making sure needy kids got presents this holiday season.

They say helping children who live nearby is their top priority.

"It's a great thing that helps the poor people in the community. The toys stay in this area, so it makes it all worth while," said ABATE member Dean Collins.

After the bikers picked up the toys, they dropped them off with members of the Marine Corps.
