Motorcyclists advised to use credit or debit cards

MANCHESTER – Choppers beware.

To use the city's new parking kiosks, people buy a sticker that they attach to their dashboards.

So, what happens when someone has a motorcycle?

That's a question Alderman Betsi DeVries of Ward 8 asked last week, since a motorcycle's sticker could easily be stolen, leaving the biker with a parking ticket he or she didn't deserve.

While it may seem obscure, the concern was one the city's parking czar said she has looked into.

Brandy Stanley said Manchester is asking motorcyclists to pay by credit or debit card, which produces an electronic record of their purchase.

She said she's talked to parking managers in other cities who tell her they haven't gotten complaints from bikers about having their stickers taken.

Portland, for instance, has had "very little, next to no" such issues, Stanley said.
