Theft of Ducati still a mystery
Thursday, January 11, 2007 - Manawatu Standard - Feilding Herald - stuff.co.nz/stuff/eveningstandard

It's nearly a month since Peter Willoughby's prized $20,000 Ducati motor bike was stolen from a lock-up in Feilding, and there has been no sign of it.

The theft of Peter Willoughby's beloved red 2001 Ducati 748s has him puzzled, and annoyed.

Although he has owned the bike for four years, it has only done a low mileage and few people would have known where he kept it.

The Ducati was stolen from a Feilding lock-up on December 14 and despite police investigations nationwide, including instructions to stop every Ducati on the roads, there has been no sight of the bike.

The bike, registration number 19UUK, is distinctive.

It has gold five-spoke wheels and lower front fork legs and is one of only five red-finished models made in 2001 for the Australasian market.

With only 3500km on the clock it was in mint condition, and Mr Willoughby's pride and joy.

He had taken it on only one long ride, to Wellington, when he got his full motorcycle licence, so not a lot of people knew about it.

Along with the bike, the thieves took $4000 worth of riding apparel a one-piece Spidi red and silver leather suit, Shoei helmet and Sidi boots.

Mr Willoughby is asking anyone who may know anything about the theft to contact him on 323-4399, or the Feilding police.
