Team Suzuki Press Office – September 4.

MX2 FIM Motocross World Championship runner-up Jeremy Seewer took his Team Suzuki World MX2 RM-Z250 to sixth position around a slick and wet new course at the mammoth Charlotte Motor Speedway for the penultimate fixture of the 2016 campaign. The Grand Prix of Americas took place on Saturday evening in warm conditions after torrential rain - as a consequence of the nearby Hurricane Hermine - caused Friday’s practice and qualification schedule to be washed out.

Normally a well established home for NASCAR and Drag racing, The Dirt Track oval was an ideal spot for Charlotte’s first MXGP and a track that was quick, jumpy and spectacular after the Friday deluge. Some 15,500 spectators filled the adjacent grandstand and hospitality units for the first of two American outings that will close the MXGP trail for 2016.

The MX2 entry list benefitted from the presence of some leading AMA riders and the battle between Jeffrey Herlings and AMA Champion Cooper Webb was one of the anticipated draws of the meeting. Seewer, safe in the knowledge that he is confirmed as runner-up in the 2016 championship, set about trying to bury the disappointment of his outing last week at Assen and aim for an 11th podium trophy this season.

In the timed practice session preceding the races on Saturday afternoon the 22 year old classified sixth while team-mate Bas Vaessen rode his RM-Z250 to 17th place on the start line.
