Round 13 - #Misano #Track Report

What was the strategy for the Misano World Circuit race?

We had high air and track temperatures during the whole weekend, and we expected that the weather would remain the same today. We had two different tire decisions for our riders. Dani decided to use the softer front tire with the medium rear, while Marc decided to use the hard front and the medium rear. Dani showed an extraordinary pace, which allowed him to recover from eighth place on the grid to a stunning victory, while Marc, who didn’t have a perfect feeling with the front tire, obtained important championship points with his fourth place.

Any positive or negative points about the race?

The positive one is clearly the fact that Dani returned to victory, becoming the eighth different winner in the last eight races! He gained the 29th victory of his career and with this win he also helped make sure that Marc did not lose too many points from Valentino. The negative point is the fact that the even if Marc was very fast throughout the weekend, this was not enough in the race to finish on the podium.

The view from pit wall during the race?

The tension was high as usual! During the first part of the race, in fact, we had Marc who was moving up through the field with some overtakes, and then during the second part of the race the tension was even higher. As Dani started to chase the leader, Marc began to slow his pace, so we had both the riders involved in difficult situations. Only after the checkered flag could we relax a little, and we started to celebrate a great team result!

Tire choice decided the result again. It seemed like Marc chose a hard option to avoid any risk, while Dani gambled with the soft option, what was the real reason?

Honestly, Dani’s choice was not a gamble, because with his riding style the soft tire was okay as we clearly saw in the race. Also for Marc I wouldn’t call his choice conservative, because during the practice this was the tire he liked more.

Any inside stories apart from your official comments?

It was a pleasure and an honor to have HRC President Mr. Yoshishige Nomura here at Misano. It’s the first time this season that Mr. Nomura has joined us for a Grand Prix, so we are really happy we could celebrate this occasion with a win!
