Mordeth13 Banned from YouTube

#1 Unread post by Damian »

Apparently sometime in early February, Mordeth13 was banned from YouTube. If you've never heard of him, he's a Canadian living in Tiawan who put a camera in his helmet and would make videos of him riding and talking. He's pretty funny and was one of the first people to do the video blogging thing from a motorcycle. I guess it happened a while ago, but I just found out today when I went to check if he had anything new up.

Anyway, I guess some company (http://www.sportzshot.com) contacted him and offered to "sponsor" him by sending him a camera and other gear to make his videos. I'm assuming that in exchange he would plug the company in his vids. I guess the company strung him along for a while and finally went back on their offer. I guess he was pissed for having his time wasted and vented in one (some?) of his vids.

The company (or their lawyer) contacted YouTube and YouTube removed the vidoes and suspended Mordeth's account.

There may be more to the story, but this company and Google both look like bottoms for banning Mordeth. Mordeth set up shop at LiveVideo over here.

That's weird. Why'd he get banned?

If I recall correctly, though I could be thinking of someone else, I was just watching a video of his yesterday where he was talking about marriage and pre-nuptuals.
Have fun on the open /¦\

There's more to this site than just the message board.

I know, I was surprised too.

When he pointed out rightly that the video people were "procreating" tools he violated their terms of service. I can't remember the exact reason...defamation or some crap.

That was skeletor.

If he really wants to stick it to them, I bet he would have a case against them to collect some kind of damages. They would have had a verbal contract and if he did any work for them under that assumption, he could sue them for breach of contract.

Just a thought :)

He doesn't have a case. They're a private organization, not a public service. They can boot off whoever they want for whatever they want. No one ever said they were not in it for the money.

I seem to remember that if you read the fine print they own the rights to the videos you upload.

I think CNF was talking about the video company, not youtube. And it sounds like the video company had a verbal contract with Mordeth that they later reneged on.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Oh, my mistake. Perhaps they had an agreement, but I don't think that's a fight worth fighting especially from half a world away.

Also, I remembered incorrectly. Youtube doesn't own your content, but they reserve the right to distribute it however they want royalty free.

Whenever an idiot "knows" what's right for the world and has the power to make it be, totalitarianism begins it's slow steady simmer. And in this case, in a few years all youtube will have is all the pop britney spears videos you could ever hope for, or at least someone could hope for.

Youtube is beginning it's sucking stage. I'm still surprised that google's main page is so minimal, although even that will change in time.

Youtube as a business has the right to do all this until someone else comes up with a better idea, that will be great and poular until it's sold to googlesoft.
