While I was getting over my 1 week flu, Andrea got to sing Christmas Carol's around the neighbourhood.

I worked today. I made a deal with the boss...they were desperate for some help today...so I told her I'd work today in exchange for getting Wednesday off.

Win-Win.

I drove home from Penticton....snowing, compact snow, slush and ice on roads...saw three vehicles that slid into the ditch....cuz they were going way too fast for the conditions....how do I know? Well...the green pick up in the ditch had passed me not much farther back in Manning Park...

All three vehicles were on a curve.....

What will it take to get people to slow down in bad conditions?

Once out of the Manning park area and nearing Hope....it was the usual....pounding rain....

Unusually mild here today, got up to the mid 50's (Fahrenheit). Mrs. Stark and I went for a ride around the Jersey pines, probably did 80 or 90 miles on back roads. First run for her BMW since it was fixed (was down for 11 weeks this fall), also first try out for our Scala G9 communicators since they were fixed (under warranty). Beautiful winter afternoon in the south Jersey pines.

I think yesterday was perhaps the best New Year's Day I've ever had since I was a kid. I spent it with six friends: we got up late, took a walk by the River Oughton in the morning, cooked communally and sat down for lunch, watched Grand Budapest Hotel on DVD in the afternoon, played bananas (a bit like Scrabble) in the early evening, ate some more, and talked right through the day for hours, and hours, and hours.

No commercialised rituals or forced enjoyment: no gifts, no gimmicks, no cards, no fireworks, no tinsel, no television, no pressure; and no complicated family issues; just each other, some good, simple food - and a sloppy dog named Darla. Bliss!

While you were having fun socializing and stuffing your face....I cleaned the oven and the kitchen...and put away all the Christmas junk. Christmas is a P.I.T.A.

I did, however have fun on NYE. Everyone was stuffing their faces.
