If Only.................
I have been reading the news posts about the Dakar rally & have felt a pull towards an extreme motorcycle adventure.
Of course I have lot's of excuses for not doing anything - if only I was brave enough; skilled enough; rich enough & foolish enough!
My fella fancies riding the whole of the Rift Valley in Africa but there are various "war zones"
as well as the above reasons for not doing it - yet!
For myself I would love to ride through India but would have to add crazy traffic to the excuse list.
So what about you guys?
Tell us about the adventure you have always dreamed about doing................

across Canada, ocean to ocean to ocean.....if only I could find some way to make the Prairie section interesting.....oh look, there is a tree on the horizon, lets see, we are doing about 160 KPH (100 MPH), going in a straight line....should reach it in about 10 hours......
Always ask why.

You just have to make sure you take in the Alberta badlands and the Qu'Appelle Valley...ceemes wrote:.if only I could find some way to make the Prairie section interesting...

Click your heel together three times and say "There's no place like home".
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

You just have to pick your route more carefully...you are spoiled living in BC...but we vacation there!!ceemes wrote:across Canada, ocean to ocean to ocean.....if only I could find some way to make the Prairie section interesting.....oh look, there is a tree on the horizon, lets see, we are doing about 160 KPH (100 MPH), going in a straight line....should reach it in about 10 hours......
I think there are a few trips I would like to make...damn near all the roads in BC would be one of them, including some gravel light adventure type of riding...Alaska and Yukon...New Foundland...Tail of the Dragon...basically tour all of the US & Canada (might zone out for the "Flat Land" areas in both countries...), hopefully wifey learns to enjoy riding so that she can come too
Once I'm done all that, I'll think about getting more "Adventurous" and going to different continents...just don't hold your breath!! I think we have it pretty good here...
Later.

I can understand why you would want to leave your island of 88,745 sq.mi. ... you would run out of stuff to see...mogster wrote:I was wondering if any one would risk leaving the American continent
In Alberta alone we have 255,286sqmi, and when that is done the rest of Canada is another 3,598,799sqmi to explore...if we get that done and get bored...we can check out the neighbours to the south...the USA has another 3,794,101sqmi of their own to explore...and we have everything here from deserts to old growth forest to mountain ranges...not to mention tundra...I really have no reason to want to go anywhere else...
Yup, PROUD TO BE CANADIAN!!

Yup... +1 on the proud bit.
British Columbia has a mere 364,800 sq mi and an amazing 434,959+ miles of roads to show it all off.
If you ever get out this way, there is a guide book that is an absolute must get, it's called, "Destination Highways BC". It lets you "See" the road before you get there by giving you a detailed review of every km that you'll ride. http://www.destinationhighways.com/default.htm They also have books for Washington State and Northern California with a Southern California book on it's way. The BC book concentrates on 85 hwys in southern BC and I've been on almost all of them...

I did wonder who would bite on the parochial bait first
The thread was intended as an ultimate "not likely" challenge, hence I named different continents.
Since the glove has been thrown down may I retort with -
