Help w/ a 83 Honda vfr750 'ceptor

#1 Unread post by ledzep12184 »

Alright, I finally fixed the electrical to where all the gauges work and I can actually see whats going on with the engine. While doing this I discovered another problem... the dreaded oil leak  whats the best way to attack this? It seems to be all on the back... around the valve cover and such. Is it ok to check the oil level on a kickstand - or should the bike be level. It seemed fine when I bought it two weeks ago and the only thing I did was change the plugs.

Oil level should be check with the bike level. Concerning the leak you might have to change some gaskets, where is the oil leaking from?

Dude the valve cover gaskets on that bike should be rubber. If some idot put on the liquid gasket on it then it will be leaking. It is a common problem that I have found.
