Wheel balance weights and auto trim tape?

#1 Unread post by jstark47 »

For whatever reason, one of the wheel weights on my Bonneville's front wheel fell off- fortunately in the garage. So, I have the weight. The adhesive seems to have completely failed - not sticking to the wheel rim, AND the adhesive strip's coming off the weight.

How to stick the weight back on? I went to the auto parts store, got some automotive trim tape per their suggestion. It seems to adhere to the weight and the rim pretty good -- got my fingers crossed. Anyone have any experience trying to attach a wheel weight with trim tape?

I've had good luck with double-sided mounted tape for office applications. Auto trim tape should work fine, there's not a lot of force trying to remove the weights.

Duct tape!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

And he wonders why I went to MMI instead of his school...

But yeah, there's also some office supply double sided foam tape that seems to work really well holding anything on. Held on my USB hub to the underside of my desk for months when not even glue held it on...
