'82 Seca dies when the clutch is let out

#1 Unread post by Fargo360 »

So my buddy has this '82 Seca that starts and runs great, but when you let the clutch out it just starts to roll then dies abrubtly. I think it might be the kill swtich on the kickstand. Thoughts?

That would certainly be one of the usual suspects. Certainly easy enough to check by disconnecting the switch.

No if that was the problem it'd die when you put it into gear.
Sounds to me like it's locking up somewhere. Can you push it around if it's in neutral?

Not all bikes work that way though. For example, on my KLX the switch is designed so that the engine stops if the clutch is engaged with the transmission in gear when the side stand is left down. And I know for a fact that the bike will roll a little before the swich kicks in and the bike shuts down.

Yeah, the Kawasaki Ninja for example, dies if you try to let the clutch out after you've put it into gear. I suppose check your unique kickstand mechanism and then take it to a repair shop if it's not responding still. I know that's got to be frustrating to have your engine running and unable to move.

best of luck!
