1978 Suzuki TS125 Trouble Idling/sometimes starting
Hi. I have asked about this problem on multiple forums and haven't been able to figure it out. So my bike will usually cold start after 4 or 5 kicks, and seem to be running fine for about 5 to ten minutes. After it gets warmed up, it won't idle below around 2500 rpm without dying, and it starts idling faster and faster, and I can't get it to idle low again, even by turning the idle screw all the way down. If I shut off the engine after this starts happening, it seems like the bike is suddenly really hard to start again, like at east 8 kicks every time. Since this problem started, I have installed an inline fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, and did a light cleaning of the carb. The only other thing I can think of that people have suggested is to check for a vacuum leak. Anybody have any other suggestions? Also how do I go about checking for a vacuum leak? Thanks.

Hello Tristan and welcome to the forum. Try spraying starter fluid (CAUTION this stuff will flame on) in front of the carb, if the bike's rpms rise you got a vacuum leak. Which it sounds like to me. Or just replace the intake. Good luck.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Hi Tristan!
I'd definitely go with Johnj's recommendations. Can you post a photo of your carb boots (those are the rubber bits between the carb and the cylinder head)? If they are cracked at all (and if they are original, I'd bet a $1 they are), I'd replace them with NEW ones (if you can find them). You CAN temporary use a good quality silicone and go around them to help stop any air leaks, but really, they are most likely warn out.
