1980 cm200t motorcycle will not fire on right side

I recently bought a Honda cm200t motorcycle. after hours or cleanup and purchase of spark plugs, ignition coil, battery and starter solenoid, it fired up and ran pretty good. Problem is the right side does not fire. I cleaned the carb. and checked for spark. Plug is getting spark. I do have a lifter noise. sounds like a tappet clicking away. Every once in a while I get a backfire from the right side. Exhaust pipe is warm but not hot. I have not checked compression. HELP!!!
