While the gas valve was set to prime and choke all the way open, it backfired twice before it started up, i turned the gas valve back to normal and about a mile later it slowed to dead again. I tried to pull the clutch in and give it gas thinking maybe there was a little bit of water in the gas or something to try to clear it and it didnt rev up at all it actually died faster. So I set it back to prime and it started right back up and i drove the rest of the way home with it set to prime and had no problems.

any ideas what I should check first?
