Brake Rotors

#1 Unread post by JC Viper »

Hey, I'm relatively new here but been here long before registering.
Anyhow, I have a 2001 Vulcan 500 (EN500 C6) that I bought used in 2004 with 2300 miles on the clock. Now the odometer reads 25,234 and I've got some questions:

The rotor seems to be worn, but it doesn't seem so bad, but how long do rotors usually last for? The base of the rotor is now higher than the outer working area... any cause for concern?

Also the engine has been making a loud mechanical sound... I guess a bunch of staplers going off... is this normal?

I've done all routine maintainance (some myself) and would like to hear from you guys on anything that should be brought to my attention. Thanks.

Oh on a side note I don't know why I keep high siding with the Hayabusa in Tourist Trophy coming out of a sharp turn (I guess 3 years riding doesn't mean jack)
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

Go here and register. You will not find a deeper well of knowledge regarding the VN500.

The stapler thing almost sounds like valves.
And if the rotors are wearing unevenly, the pads might be to blame. If it still stops fine, then no worries really.

The rotors will have wear limits that, once past, will require replacement. What that tolerance is, I don't know. But you can find them in the service manual.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
