It depends on the location. The ones that charges $100 a student don'y pay as well as the ones that charge $300 a studentShiv wrote: From what I understand it's more of a thing you do because you want to and the money is more of a side benefit of the teaching.
In other words, you don't get paid much.
I signed up to become a Rider Coach

MSF course in PA is free.
I dont remember exactly what instructors get paid, but i think its somewhere in the low to mid teens. As was mentioned, i dont think its something you do for the money. Definitly isnt for me.

I already have a job like that. I don't need another one. In Texas, the BRC price is $180, set by state law.Shiv wrote:From what I understand it's more of a thing you do because you want to and the money is more of a side benefit of the teaching.I'm sure the training will make a beeter rider out of most anyone. I wonder what the pay is for a rider coach? Is it worthwhile financially?

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
I checked out the Maryland site, and it said $19-25/hour.
I found http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/msb/ with links to most anything having to do with motorcycles and the government in Texas. I just glanced through, but it seems in Texas one must first become a MSF Certified Rider Coach, serve an unpaid internship with an approved BRC program to which the applicant is assigned, then successfully complete an additional 80 or so classroom hours, expecting 160 hours spent doing homework, and an unpaid student teaching assignment for a certain number of BRC classes. That's roughly triple the amount of training required in Maryland. Maybe I need to go back and read that again.

In Alberta all I know is that you need to volunteer for the first year (so you can learn to teach people). After that you start getting a check... but it isn't a big one.
I'm thinking about signing up for the summer after this coming one. After I get my job all settled in.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I'm not wasting a year "learning to teach people" for free. I have a Bachelor of Science in Human Learning, a Master of Science in Elementary Curriculum Development, and an Educational Doctorate in Secondary Education. Hey, wait a minute, I had to pay for six years of college "learning to teach people". Free is good!
