Favorite Safety Additions

#1 Unread post by darsek »

Hi everyone,

Do you have a favorite item, aside from the necessary gear, that you have added to your bike, helmet, clothing which helps you be more visible? For instance, I received a helmet "Halo" for Christmas and I think it's great! It's an inexpensive and simple way to stand out a little more.

So, how about it....what are your favorite safety gadgets?

you know those white and red stickers you see on the back of big trucks? Well I took one of them, chopped the red part off, and then cut the white into strips.

I then put a giant \/\/ on the back of my helmet.

Tell me you didn't see THAT when I get rearended some day.

I put two led's on the back, make a huge difference on how far away you can spot me. A real attention grabber too, I left them as running lights.

Well some body decided to mess with the exposure times on my camera... :frusty: o well..

My bike almost looks exactly the same except for the mounts are rubber.

Deer Avoidance

#4 Unread post by Scoutmedic »

I haven't installed mine yet (just got it for Christmas) but, the guys I know that have The Hornet Electronic Deer Avoidance System swear by them. They have motorcycle specific models and accessories. The guys I ride with claim they've seen deer literally run in the other direction.

Pete might want to try it out on the Swamp Donkeys up his way...

Wow,the Hornet sounds great! I'm always worrying about deer, even though I'm in San Francisco, the roads through Marin county are loaded with deer, even on the freeway!
The LEDs are great too,I'd like to get some flashy lights for the back of my bike and maybe an extra loud horn.

nothing on the bike, but my jacket has reflective piping and patches on it. That and i know for a fact my pipe helps people see me behind them  Though in the spring i want to add some LED strips to my mirrors for blinkers so the bike looks wider at night. Don't know if that's going to be in addition to or going to replace the stock flushmount blinkers.

When you get that installed, I would really appreciate a write up about how you did it, and how well it works and such.

I'm really interested in that product, as I live in some SERIOUS deer county.

Will do. And, same here. I live in rather rural areas and commute to work. Live outside a city of about 10k and commute 30 minutes to another city of about 10k. I'm always travelling early morning and dark hours so, I'll definitely be puting it through the works.
