This is my first bike and I'm finding it to be a forgivng, yet fun bike. The seat height is a hint on the tall side, 780mm. The Vtwin 250 is peppy and gives nice low end. It's a very smooth shifting bike and easy clutch. It would be nice if the handle bars came a little wider and open ended instead of closed. Risers make the seating position comfortable.

I saw this bike on craigslist near my area. Could it be an older sibling? I guess the VTR250 got discontinued in the states though :cry:

The engine is almost exactly the same as in the new VTR and it is based on 1/2 of the original 500 Interceptor engine of 1984. The inboard brakes were only in '88 and '89. This is the 1990 VTR 250 we had kicking around our garage for years:

The VTR250 Interceptor was sold in the States from 88-90. It looks similar to the Ninja 250.


I have seen a picture or two of a 98+ model in the States, in particular a yellow one in Seattle. So, it seems they can be imported. These bikes currently sell in the UK, Australia, NZ, Spain and Japan.

You gotta love those "translations" you get from Japanese sites.
So what I think it is saying is that the VTR250 was around BEFORE the 500 min-ceptor that I thought that it was based on.....
.....now that I think about it, I believe that the 500 mini-ceptor might have been based on the 400cc V-Four that they had in Japan a year earlier as well. I guess time (and Shorts posting) may prove my fuzzy memories wrong on that one as well....
