This is such a difference!

#1 Unread post by matthew5656 »

The first time I rode onto the highway a couple of weeks ago, it felt very uneasy because the bike did not accelerate the same as at lower speeds, the wind was blowing through my jacket every which way, and the wind was most certainly obnoxiously loud! The wind noise becomes excruciating even at 60mph. So I went to a gun shop today and bought a pack of ear plugs. The difference at high speeds was very impressive when I rode back on the highway earlier this evening. I could actually hear the motor, and the previous rush of wind sounded like a slight, mellow breeze... The motor felt more powerful because i'm sure I pushed it even harder without all the wind noise surrounding me. Now I will never leave home without them if I plan on riding more than 55mph.

Eventually I will buy some nice ones because the pack I have aren't very reusable. I have four more pairs until I buy a good pair. Does anyone think headphones with music block the wind noise just as efficiently? Tunes would be cool but I still need to pay attention to what I'm doing, I worry I would zone out to a radio....

headphones don't block wind noise. I'd look for m/c specific earplugs, they have filters that block wind and pipe noise but allow you to hear the midrange pretty well so you can still converse normally with them on.

if you get "in ear" speakers from Sure, or something like the Etymotic ER6i they are a great sound deadener, and you can actually hear the music. Pricey though.

I have the shure's and they're comfy and very effective.

Sony makes some earphones very similar to the Shure phones. They have a little flexible rubber (plastic?) cup that sits in the ear canal and blocks out external noises.

The Sony phones are much cheaper and sound surprisingly good.

After reading the reviews I'd avoid that, spend the extra money and get a good pair of Shure earphones, I'm going to invest in a pair soon.

*shrug*

I have two pair, both purchased in the past year and a half. They're both holding up beautifully and sound fantastic. Much better than any other earbuds I've used (except maybe a $200 pair of Shures my buddy has), including the $50 white Sennheisers I initially bought for my iPod.

those are probably ok but i'd be willing to bet they dont block sound anywhere near as well as the Shures and the other higher end units. The good ones also come with different sized foam or rubber parts that go in your ear, so you can custimize the fit. the right fit is what gives you the best sound, and everyone's ear size is different.

That said, if those work for you, great. I'm very happy with my Shure's. BTW, i have the middle quality range ones that i got at wholesale for $60. As i mentioned i can wear them in place of earplugs and they blocks ound just as well, in addition to being the best sounding earphone i've ever heard.

They're every bit as good as the low-end Shures IMO and they do come with 3 different sizes of rubber cups. The mechanism of sound reduction is basically identical to, say, the E2C.

I'm not saying not to buy Shures or that there is a problem with them, just that I can speak from a position of having used both. Even the lower-end Shures do sound a bit better, but not much, and the Sonys sound pretty darn good.

Is this for real? "The motor felt more powerful because i'm sure I pushed it even harder without all the wind noise surrounding me"?
